And the Houston dumpster fire continues to burn. Boat raced by a bad Mets team. Gotta love it.

Seemed like they used a lot of their good pitchers. Were Kelly and gravemam really necessary tonight when you're behind and it's late?

Cmon guys… they're just tired. Wait until Yordan gets back. The offense will put up 10 runs a game while the starters put up 9 zeroes and all the obese women in the stands of Minute Maid will be ovulating the whole time.

Heaney tonight - still no announced starter for Chicago. White Sox really struggling this season - good time to get them.
I know this team is totally different, so it shouldn't matter much, but I seem to remember us always doing poorly in Chicago. Even when we were good in 2016. This looks like a good opportunity to win some games up there.

Dave Raymond just said the Rangers are 50-80 against CWS in their park!
I'm not a Raymond fan, but he's right. Even when we're good, we have struggled in Chicago. Even the radio guys I listen to talked about it.

This road trip is a chance to reverse some of those trends. Ranger fans probably have memories of winning some playoff games at New yankee stadium, but that is also a park where we barely if ever win.

Speculation here, but do the Dodgers shop Kershaw if they continue to slide. Hometown reunion for a run?

This article may help your question:

It is why I hope the Rangers can present an inevitability that the Rays and Rangers are the 2 best teams.

Dodgers have one of the strongest minor leagues and are likely buyers. What they buy will depend on how they matchup, IMO.

Kershaw finally taking the plunge and signing with the Rangers next season is much more likely than us trading for him.

What pitcher wouldn't want to pitch in this park with this offense supporting them?

I'm going to throw this out there. This team seems to have some similarities to the Astro's team of 2017, (minus the sign stealing). The younger guys beginning to live up to their potential. Solid pitching, sometime shaky bullpen and good defense. Where I think this team is better is in coaching. I firmly believe that an organization takes on the persona of its leader and this team has done just that. Bochy is a steady calming influence. He has been there and done that. His ejection the other night spoke volumes.

Last thing, since the ejections, this team has seemed to get some of its "swagger" back. Semien, Maddox and Bochy put a charge back in this team.

Agree on all accounts. Maddux is also a calming presence.

The key to a good long run is having young, controllable, and cheap players as major contributors. We have that along with veterans locked up.

Our main losses to FA after this season will be: Martin Perez ($19.6M), Odorizzi ($12.5M), MIller ($4M), Grossman, Garver ($3.9M), Jankowski, Leon and Smith. You could argue there is a net positive.

And, I'd suspect that Perez would open to signing again if given the opportunity.

Seriously?

I wouldn't want to be compared to that 2017 team at all. They're probably the second most hated team in MLB history behind the "black Sox".

Major differences : our infield is more mature, pretty much all vets except for Jung. Their center fielder hit lead off. Their second baseman was the shortest guy on the team and possibly in the whole stadium every night they played. They had an ace pitcher who was "defying the clock" and dominating.

Only ones on that list I'd probably bring back is Perez and Jankowski. Perez still does fine as #4 or #5 starter.

If the season ended today, I'd absolutely re-sign Garver on a team-friendly deal. Unless Huff proves he's ready to go a backup catcher that isn't a black hole and actually adds depth offensively would be a welcome addition.

I'd bring Will Smith and Garver back.

Smith has been very reliable this season, and I think you bring him back until he proves otherwise.

You bring Garver back because the only other option is Heim. Leon is gone for sure, and Huff isn't ready. Heim is your starter and will take the bulk of the work. Catcher isn't a priority at the trade deadline, so you'd have to make a trade or FA acquisition in the offseason and I'm not educated enough on who would be available and targeted as a backup

Perez at a lot less than $19.5 MM that's for damn sure

Once again, great call by Rangers only offering a QO to Perez. He wanted ace money and he ain't all that.

This is the right call for Owen. He's settled into a pretty consistent groove at Frisco and it's time for him to see big league hitters in some capacity, consistently.

Seager's numbers are ridiculous. That's getting close to Babe Ruth / Loe Gehrig numbers

So OPS+ is average. So damn near every player is above league average - most by a lot.

How much longer does he have to go before he qualifies for the Batting Average leaderboard?
I noticed he shows up when I look at RBI leaders, but not Average.
Do we think he's close?

There was a post about it yesterday. I think he's about 3 weeks away from qualifying, assuming he plays nearly every game.
fc2112
How long do you want to ignore this user?
3.1 PA per game.

We've played 72 games. So 223 as of today to qualify. He has 186 as of last night.

223-186 = 37

He gets about 5 every game he plays. So he picks up 2 every game. So about lt 18-20 more games. So right around the All Star break.

So if Carter is ready next year, and with Taveras becoming such a stud, our starting outfield of Carter, Taveras and Garcia looks - quite formidible.

Going into this season, outfield was our biggest weakness. Now? Wow.
