Sun seems to be brutal in left field. Seattle's LF misplayed a routine pop fly that turned into a double for Josh Smith

Dunning pulled with a 71 PC. BP has to get 9 outs

LF in Seattle is very hard for early season midday games. Sun is RIGHT above the stadium lip. I've been on that field that time of day.

I'm all about extending pitchers slowly when coming out of the bullpen, but he could have easily gone 1-2 more innings at his pace and not had fatigue issues.

Another error by the manager? He pitches 2 innings fairly regularly. Why not leave him in here?

Josh Smith actually played well this series. The pitching needed to be good. We only scored 6 runs over 3 games, but it was enough. Seattle went right at us with all of their best pitchers.

Silver lining to the Seager injury:

https://www.mlb.com/rangers/news/analyzing-ezequiel-duran-s-hot-stretch

"It's hard not to have him out there a lot," Bochy said. "We're gonna have to find a spot for him somewhere with the way he's swinging the bat. I gotta get creative here to get this kid in the lineup."

Allow me to help on this one Bochy. You just found your regular left fielder!

I hate when The Rangers have to play in that **** hole stadium in Oakland. Hopefully we get at least 3 there and finish the west coast road trip at 6-3. Can't remember the last time we could say that. Then get Seager back to start the home stand against the Braves and Rockies.

For the first time in a long time, I feel good about going to that possum infested sewer. The way our lineup is hitting and pitchers are pitching? We should get 3 out of 4 comfortably, but I know the last time we went into a bottom feeders ballpark we got throttled so you never know with baseball.
gigem1223

I wouldn't say they got throttled at Cincinnati. They led most the series. The bullpen unfortunately blew 2 big leads. That's another silver lining out of the Seattle series. The bullpen executed and closed 2, 1 run ball games.

The walks killed us. That's why I hate playing Oakland. Their whole philosophy is they would rather walk than swing the bat. You gotta pound the zone and hit the corners to beat them. Only "nibble" or take chances when your pitcher as ahead in the count.

From Evan Grant:

On Thursday, Eovaldi takes the mound for the Rangers series opener at Oakland with a 20-inning scoreless streak, the longest of his career. It's an impressive streak. Fastball's been good. Pitch mix: Delicious. His coaching isn't bad either.

Consider that after Monday's win in Seattle, Jon Gray credited the ability to lean on "coaches and teammates" for helping him to break out of a frustrating three-week stretch. Gray later acknowledged that a talk with Eovaldi was key to that.

With the blessing of pitching coach Mike Maddux, Eovaldi, who watches all his teammates' bullpens, passed along some thoughts on weight distribution and his hand placement.

"Nate's a good teammate," Maddux said. "He wants to win. He has a good eye and I have bounced stuff off him. I've given him some, um, tasks. He's really good with delivery stuff. He understands it and he has a feel for it. He shared some cues and thoughts with Jon.

"That's what good teammates do. It helps a guy to know that when he needs it, another guy is there to help."

In the series opener, Gray gave the Rangers seven innings, allowing only a bases-empty, first-inning home run to Ty France. He used his slider with much more frequency and effectiveness than he had.

"I've never had help like that mechanically from a teammate," Gray said. "I've never been good with that stuff. I can be all over the place on what I'm trying to do. But he's on top of it. It's so nice to be able to lean on guys. It's a huge help."

Going 2-2 in Oakland would be a bummer IMO. Mason Miller is the only good starting pitcher they have (3.38 era). He was supposed to pitch against us Friday, but is having arm soreness and now we'll miss him. They don't even have a starter listed for tomorrow, and the Friday/Sunday guys have era's around 8. Saturday guy is 5.54.

Cannot begin to emphasize how unusual this is. Watching the other guys throw bullpen on their off days is a serious time commitment. This is a guy who REALLY wants all his fellow pitchers to succeed.

Some more code talk in that. From Maddux:

I'd love to know exactly what he's talking about there. Projects? One on one time with individual pitchers, like perhaps Dunning? Dunning has mentioned Eovaldi by name several times.

All in all, the kind of thing you really like to see. Yeah, future coach if he wants to do something besides sit on his mountain of money for the rest of his life some day.

This takes being a good teammate to a new level. My respect for Eovaldi just went through the roof.

Sure sounds like it. He is from Texas (Alvin, Tx I believe), so maybe after he is done playing he can stay with the organization to work with the pitchers. But that is down the road a ways, he is pitching well now, so hopefully he keeps rolling tonight in Oakland.
