Yup, Barnett replaced him and held the position until his on-air stroke. Then I believe they threw in Busby who took over for a while (who I actually really liked).

It was kinda crazy because Lewin and Tag had been there for a decent while and within a span of 18 months we burned through 3 guys.

Raymond has grown on me a little bit but is by far my least favorite out of everyone we've had.

Also agree with what others have said about Nadel, he's a legend, and deserves the job for as long as he wants it, but he definitely sounds kinda down and unenthused recently. I really hope everything is ok with him, to me he's what baseball is supposed to sound like

I really like CJ and Raymond is just a play by play guy. I was in the camp of the people who thought Lewin was a little hokey. I don't mind a bland play by play as long as the analyst is insightful. TAG was nice, but his insight was outdated.

Lewin was hokey, but was excellent at transferring the emotion of the game through the screen, which is what you're looking for in sports like baseball and hockey (not so much football, which is why guys like Jackson, Summerall, and Michaels are legends and Gus Johnson is a running joke). His home run calls were great. I've mentioned Nadel's dourness here before, and I I've come to really like Matt Hicks. Jared Sandler is going to be great in the future when Nadel steps down. He's really good.
I always liked when the rangers would win by recording the last out and Lewin would always say BALL GAME.

Yes, Lewin had a great tagline for games won by Texas. And it was expecially great with a walkoff win. The great win over Oakland in 2004 late in the season when Delucci hit the walkoff two run double was pure greatness when Lewin made that call that day and finished with BALLGAME!!

Man, I'd forgotten a out that game. Need to go back and see if I can find a clip of it.

Now they think I said there will be zero Astros fans in attendance this week. Leave it to Marvin, the guy who claimed a Rangers fan assaulted his wife, and then ran to TexAgs to complain about it, to be the one who is completely delusional. Guess the old fan forgot his meds this morning.

What I actually said vs Marvin's post today

So he doesn't believe a guy who works in the Rangers ticket office might have knowledge of how the Rangers were selling tickets?

I loved Lewin's goofiness. My favorite bit of his was to show footage of the Kingdome implosion every time we played in Seattle. I have forgotten most of his silly one-liners; the only one I remember was when Ruben Sierra struck out and he said "Sierra missed" (like Sierra Mist). It was a pretty dumb joke, but I laughed.

my favorite thing about josh lewin was when he'd stare uncomfortably when the color commentator would speak. He'd just turn his head and not move while staring directly into the face of his commentator partner until his turn to speak again. miss that dude

What should I do about parking for today's game? I have been parking in the lot west of Texas Live. I'm between there and AT&T. Is that a pay lot for this series like usual? What kind of fee am I looking at?

Or should I try to buy a pass somewhere? I want to know where I am going before I start my drive there.

I'm behind here, but all this talk about Lewin and I always remember him most for this call. I had just gotten home from school and turned it on hoping to catch the ending. I turned it on just in time for Delucci's AB. Absolute all-timer right here. It was a HUGE win for that 2004 team at the time to try to stay in the hunt for the division.

Now back to discussion about the current series and today's game.

Yup, that's the Lewin call that won me over. Rangers even sold playoff strips that year because we made a run down the stretch.

Thanks for the youtube find! I actually "bought" that game on MLB.com... But due to the DRM going obsolete I've had a file I couldn't watch anymore.

Won't link it, but there's an ESPN article this morning about the Dallas-Houston rivalry, and it's one of the lamest pieces I've ever read on ESPN. It literally skims over why the cities of Dallas and Houston dislike each other, spending more time discussing how the cities were founded on the backbone of slavery, the Texas Rangers are racist, and how "long-suffering" Houston fans were despite their greater level of success during the 80s-00s. It never dives into why the fans dislike each other, the insecurity of Houston fans, the nonchalance of Dallas fans, or the inter-family rivalries that ensue. It's really weird and doesn't seem to be written by someone who has the pulse of rivalry.

Edit: and I'm a journalist

I HATE the Astros. Like, with every fiber of my being. It's hard to describe, because when they were in the NL, it wasn't like this. I definitely didn't like them but it was more apathetic and they were just whatever. I definitely didn't root for them over the White Sox though. But since they've joined the AL and especially over the past few years they've become insufferable. Don't get me wrong, I'm man enough and mature enough to congratulate them on their success. But holy hell that entire fan base is beyond miserable. To me, this rivalry and hatred is as intense as the Red Sox and Yankees. I'm actually shocked the benches haven't cleared in this series yet. I couldn't ask for a better opponent to play to go to the World Series.

Rangers over everyone.

I always rooted for the Astros but now they are in the division its weird.

It would be like your cousin from Louisiana moving into your school district and trying to date the same girls as you....you like him but don't want him to do well.

I grew up in Fort Worth, big Rangers fan but never even thought about the Astros. I remember we had one guy I went to school with that was mad at Brad Lidge in 2005. Otherwise, no one cared. They were in the NL and they were in Houston. Lots of **** talk on Houston but the Astros were never even an after thought.

Moved to College Station for school and most of the people I hung out with were Astros fans. One of my roommates talked a lot of trash about the Rangers and I just remember thinking about how I didn't care about the Astros at all.

I then moved to Houston and the Astros moved to the AL West. Astros were terrible. You could go to the games in the air conditioning and drink cheap beer (at least cheap for an MLB park). Rangers came through a few times a year. Rangers were having their run and life was grand.

Then the Astros got good and their fans haven't shut up about it. So much **** talking. To their credit, they've turned it into a rivalry based on them running their mouth alone. Cheating meant the rest of the country hated them now.

**** the Astros.

Have some family members that are Astros fans so it's fun but I don't care about them much. It's funny they call themselves our daddy. I looked and we actually hold a small edge in the all time series.

Pretty much my experience as well. I lived in North East Texas, watched all the North Texas teams growing up.

Moved to A&M and married an Astros fan. Still live here in B/CS and it's Astros fans everywhere. No love lost from me in regards to the Astros.

That's because when they first came into the AL we owned them like they have us here recently. Things change. Here's to hoping we are both good for awhile to let this rivalry "blossom". Or they could lose every game from now on as well. That wouldn't hurt me at all.

Either way, let's get one tonight and move one step close.

Right plus we usually beat then in interleague play before that but call yourself Daddy because you've beat us recently during our rebuild but don't even hold an edge in the series is weird.

Now the other thread is going to say you have a problem with blue collar hard working men. Marvin / farmer will probably say you spat on him and took his hoodie, then didn't tip him at all.
