I've mentioned this before... I'd love to see the season-long accumulation of those. I would bet teams like NYY and Boston are significantly advantaged.

That's what I figured.

And when you look at LAAA... good way to push Ohtani out of the SoCal market... by ensuring they struggle to win.

The fact the Yankees are still struggling is sad. All the money in the world. The media... The Umps... all siding with them, and they'll likely be staying home.

I do not want them in the Playoffs.

Yes that 4% difference between LAA and LAD is the league trying to push Ohtani to the Dodgers.

Probably news to you...

The Dodgers have moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles... So Cal...

But, then... you always read what you want to read.

Absolutely. Pay attention when Yankees are in playoffs.

Every single Yankee game is in prime time. So, Rangers are perpetually playing their games on weekdays in the afternoon. I wouldn't mind if - they got a preference - but no, it is 100% of their games get the prime time spot.

Same amount of "favortism" SEC schools get with getting majority of non-11am national games.

With most AL east teams, it mainly depends where you play them.

I'd be worried about a trip to New York or Tampa in the wild card round. We would've won 2/3 in Fenway with a decent bullpen and we did good in Baltimore.

The Yankees and rays are just much tougher at home. We clobbered both teams at the globe.

So Angel Hernandez had an absolutely brutal game yesterday behind the plate for Yankees/Astros. Really looking forward to his scoresheet.

But he isn't just incompetent - he's downright hateful towards the ball players. Listen to this exchange with headphones on.

I look on the bright side - this guy is a one man advertisement for robo-umps.

Angel is a terrible umpire, but this and you can GFY would be my two standard responses to whiny professional athletes and managers in any sport. Kudos to him for calling out the crybabies

That's honestly probably not bad considering the Astros walked 12 or so guys. I saw one pitch in the 9th, maybe would have been the last strike iirc, where the catcher was set up low and away and a slider clipped the inside corner. Yeah, it's a strike, but you can't get upset about not getting it, especially when your staff has thrown 100 balls on the day.

Edit: just checked, and yes, it was the pitch to Stanton with 2 outs in the 9th. No way you can blame that miss on Angel.

Yeah, I imagine once more and more data comes out we'll find it has very little to do with the league being nefarious and wanting the Yankees (and Tigers!) to get the favorable calls, and it will instead show certain venues it's harder to clearly see the pitch (just like the batter's eye help hitters more than others, same with umpires), certain good/bad pitching staffs are likely to get the benefit of the doubt (a Cy Young winner dealing filthy stuff is going to get the call on the corner more than Joe Callup), number of pitches in the game as well as game time time temperature (I would assume in a 100 degree game an umpire will be more prone to give the strike on a close pitch).

That's the Michael Jordan rational.

MJ was really good, but the lack of calls against him and the phantom calls on him helped him reach a higher level. It was among the reasons the NBA is not interesting to me. Traveling is traveling and you can't have Jordan and other superstars taking 3 steps and everyone else getting only 1. So, the Rich teams like the Yankees buy up all the marque players who in addition to be more talented, get all of the Ump calls.

I don't think Rodon vs Urquidy would be the same disparity as say Gerritt Cole vs Bradford.

The rest, IMO, isn't about venue or temperatures. Both teams are playing in the same venue and the same weather/temperature should get the same strike zones for the same 9 IP.

The NYY are 3rd favored for "Away" games.
Det, ChC, NYY, NYM, Sea.

My gosh, Stanton had an atrocious game. He's simply forgot how to play baseball. Old time Yankee fans would fit him with some concrete boots and throw him in the river.

This first part of the week is a huge for us. We have 3 games against the worst team in the majors and the Astros have 3 against the best team in the AL.

Lead right now is 2.5. Worst case scenario for us should be taking 2 of 3 against the A's but to be honest I'd be a little disappointed if that were the case. I'm hoping to at least get the lead to 3.5 by Thursday but 4.5 would be out of this world.

I can see that Baltimore/Houston series going either way. A sweep by either team isn't out of the question, so we definitely need to take advantage of our games against the A's.

Houston's schedule after Thursday gets easier over the next two weeks as they play middling teams.

vs LAA (.496)
@ MIA (.513)
vs SEA (.536)
vs BOS (.514)

While we play tougher teams than we had been:

@ SF (.545)
vs LAA (.496)
vs MIL (.531)
@ AZ (.504)

All in all a fairly even schedule comparatively which makes these next 3 games important to pad a lead going into it.

Conspiracy theories about fixed games and the like tend to be from people who don't understand large amounts of data... so this checks.

There's a fair bit of irony there.

But ignoring it -- an official being selfish/greedy and impacting the game for his own selfish means isn't a big stretch (though it still hasn't shown to happen often).

A league directing a group of officials to make sure a certain outcome is more likely -- especially in a manner of "hey if the Yankees are playing give them a more favorable strike zone!" tends to be what bitter fans want to believe.

Historically better players are more likely to get calls. Historically better teams are more likely to get calls. That's not a conspiracy to impact the outcome, that's just human nature.

Good news is the Mariners are 5-2 against Houston this year so that won't be easy.

I think the Astros should dominate the angels, but as long as they don't get the 3,4,5 starters from Miami / Seattle / Boston, the other teams can and should beat them at least once.

The marlins threw 2 really good starters at us in luzardo and Alcantara, but luckily we handled them. They already got a break by not seeing Gerritt Cole in a 4 game series at yankee stadium.
