We struck out 14 times tonight while our pitchers walked 8 angels.

A couple of those games against the Reds weren't so hot.

This one hurts more because of the umpire squeezing dunning then we kept being over aggressive / wasting chances / getting ourselves out then in extra innings, every ball we hit hard went right at someone, but we shouldn't have had to go to extra innings if the ump wasn't a moron.

Pulling Duran for defense sucked too. He might have gotten a big hit in one of the later innings. Also why did Bochy wait so long to pull dunning?

So many things to hate about this game.

A few things.

1. Duran doesn't come out of the line up in a tight game. PERIOD
2. Lowe drops to 6 in the batting order, move the order up or put Duran or Leody in the 3 spot.
3. Leon and Miller need to go away. They provide zero value. Garver can back up Heim and if not call up Huff.
4. We're in a bad spot with Bradford likely going tomorrow. Need his best effort cuz the bullpen is taxed.

Rough outings for Dunning and Ragans that game. I think it's time for Ragans to get the demotion to Round Rock. He's been too inconsistent this year, and when he's off he really implodes like tonight (plus he doesn't pitch much anyways).

The team also had so many other chances to score runs and simply didn't. This feels like our second real slump of the season having lost 3/4 in pretty ugly fashion. It's baseball though, so you keep plugging away.

Heaney and Eovaldi really need to be on their game this time thru the rotation or we're in trouble.

I just saw the pitch tracker when Jung was up with a man on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and it looked like not one pitch to him was a strike but he struck out swinging at what looked like 3 balls. Sad thing is if he walks then Heim flied out may have score the winning run. You cannot get so anxious in a big moment that you are in swing mode.

Seems like same thing happened to Duran in Tampa at the end of the game. Guys are getting too anxious trying to get that big hit and it's costing us with bad strikeouts.

I somewhat agree. Dane got squeezed early and his defense let him down, it cost him 2 runs plus at least another IP. As far as Ragans, he pitched great his first inning. Then ran into Ohtani the 2nd inning. Not gonna bag on him too much. I feel like they're wasting him in the bullpen though. It's almost like they have no idea what to do with him.

So I had my season tickets for Wednesday night but exchanged and upgraded them to the seats shown below for Thursday to see Eovaldi v. Ohtani. Should be great.

Well looks like I went to bed at the perfect time. And just saw we will be pitching a no name today. Man that's rough. Could lose 5 out of the last 6 if this pitcher sucks it up tonight. A slump was eventually going to happen at some point. Just need to win a few games to be on top of the division.

Most of Ragans statistics are worse this year than last in about half the innings pitched so far, but I digress, they are absolutely wasting him. Since his shelling in Cincinnati on April 25, he's pitching on average every four days. That may not sound too bad when viewing him as more of a long reliever, but he's got periods right now where he's not pitching but every five or six days. I find that to be a waste for the team and a waste for him. Send him to RR so he can pitch consistently and maybe figure a few things out.

Didn't realize this but Bradford pitched 3 nights ago. Really not sure what they're going to do about tonight's starter? Do they give White a chance?

I think Duran was hurt. Was wincing some in his last AB. Hope I am wrong.

But agree Lowe needs to drop in the order. He has been about the 9th best offensive player on the team by the stats. I think the order could use a shuffle in general based on how guys have been producing this year. I'd trot out something like:

1. Semien - cold streak right now but still a great lead-off hitter.
2. Taveras - ideal 2-hole hitter. Can work the count, gets on base, puts the ball in play, good baserunner.
3. Seager - best overall hitter on the team, should be here.
4. Jung - has shown a lot of power this year and I would like to see what he can do here.
5. Garcia - has had a sharp decline in production in the last month or so. See if this helps.
6. Lowe - hasn't had production needed to stay at 3, drop to see if this eases some pressure.
7. Heim - really good hitter, just drops a spot because Taveras moved up.
8. Garver - weakest overall hitter of the bunch, but still has a lot of power. If he mashes, could move up.
9. Duran - hitting over .300 and manages to hit the ball hard a lot, leading in to the top of the lineup.

If Duran isn't healthy, put Jankowski, Grossman, or Smith at 9.

Would we be in favor of resting our guys if we have to pitch some random? Or is there a minor league guy who can give this team a legitimate start?

I thought it was said that he was still in Arlington. Yeah, I'm surprised to see he pitched in RR. White could go, he is in Frisco, so it would be proximity and he is on the 40.

Ragans could probably use a breather.

It really comes down to who is on the 40. We went pretty deep into the BP, yesterday.

Options:
Hearn - He has been transitioned to BP. Could get things rolling with a couple IP.
Howard - Went 0.1 IP in Tampa 4H and 4ER
Kent - Oblique issue
White - 11 GS, 3.54 @ AA Frisco
Winn - Struggling in AAA with an 8+ ERA
Bradford - Just pitched.

White could be the only option... pardon the pun.
Leiter isn't on the 40.

For those new... John Blake is usually a good follow on updates, when GigEm is too busy cooking Brisket:

Bradford is in Arlington, reportedly. I bet he goes about 3-4 innings to start since he will have one day less rest than normal and then turn it over to Burke and hope he can give you 2-3 innings.

Prepare yourself because, if Bradford does start, those two will probably be left out there for as long as they can physically go, even if they perform poorly. Used a lot of arms last night and cannot afford to use a lot again tonight. Doing so would really put the bullpen in a compromising position with only 1 off day between now and the all-star break.

Bradford didn't have an amazing start last time but he certainly did well enough for us to win the ball game. That's all you can ask from guys like him.

I am ready for a minor league pitcher to grab the bull by the horns and show out. We desperately need someone to hit another gear and blow the door open to the MLB with his play. It would make nights like tonight much more palatable as well.

I do like the idea of giving a guy the chance to taste The Bigs even if only for a single GS. I would love to see Owen White coming up for a GS or two with the expectation that no matter how well/poorly he does, he'll be returned.

That takes off the pressure on his individual performance. It would also be less pressure than saying, "Guess what... you are our #5 going forward."

Two users on Reddit who claim to know Owen and his family personally say Owen White is starting tonight. Who knows if it is true, but just reporting what I saw. Could be a tandem effort with White and Bradford.

Baseball is a funny game. Oakland wins 6 in a row vs good competition while I believe our best winning streak this season is 5.

It's criminal how long JD stuck around with how pitiful we were at developing starting pitching or lack thereof

Need the lineup to revert back into form and blow the eff out one of these games.

This is pretty exciting. It's only a spot start, but from what I've read and listened to, Owen does have that attitude and bravado on the mound. Even if it doesn't go well, I hope he comes out tonight and says f you to Trout and Ohtani and tries to shove it down their throat.

How wild would it be that 2 of the first three batters you face in your MLB career are Ohtani and Trout?

According to LSB Bradford is getting the start tonight. Since Bradford is on 3 days rest, I would start White and use Bradford as the long man if White gets into trouble.
