Sucks we're out of this thing, but as a huge baseball fan I'm really going to enjoy sitting back, relaxing and watching a game 7 tonight. Stress-free.

I agree, but only because I want a more entertaining WS. Tex/Ariz would be boring as hell and most likely very one-sided.

I don't know what's more shocking, the '19 team not winning the World Series or this '23 team being one win away from going to the World Series.

Every single off season move was a disaster. Yes, Abreau did 'help' in the playoffs but that contract is still an absolute anchor.

We need a left fielder, two starting pitchers (least one ace) and upgrade at either SS or 1B (which will be difficult and requires balls in the front office)

Our wish list is that of teams who finish 2nd or 3rd in divisions.

With that being said. Yordan, Altuve, Diaz, Bullpen, new manager.. I can put on fan shades and talk myself into it.

Time to spend money or take risks.

First choice - Astros v Snakes
2nd choice - Astros v Phils
Distant 3rd - Rangers v Phils

I'm giving Abreu a full healthy season before I call it a "disaster".

Agree we need an outfielder (LF or CF). I see this as the biggest need. Lourdes Gurriel?

We don't need a SS, IMO. Pena is elite defensively and let's see if the bat improves.

Agree we need a SP, but don't think it needs to be an "ace". While getting someone like Jordan Montgomery or Aaron Nola would be nice, they will be very expensive. Would rather grab a Sonny Gray type guy.

We need to lock in Altuve and Bregman.

I'm not ready to waive the white flag on Pena yet. Next year I think will be the indicator.

I agree with this. Obviously, we need 2022 Pena back. Whatever he did in last year's offseason, he needs to undo in this upcoming offseason. Feel like the guy was trying to be someone other than himself.

Because the Phillies match up against Arlington a lot better

I don't think Pena is a natural hitter. He has a great glove and his bat is adequate to keep him in the lineup.. but it won't be a bat you rely on to produce night in and night out. I think he's better than what we saw this year but his postseason heroics were a flash in the pan.
this. Pena is a bottom of the order hitter and I would love the Astros to bring in another SS to make him compete and light a fire under his ass. Hitting is a natural talent. You don't learn to hit in the majors when you've never been a dominant hitter in your entire life.

Pena hit .390 in high school. For a major league player that is a crap avg. He was barely above .300 avg in college, playing at MAINE. Not exactly major league talent he's facing throughout the year. He is what he is and the Astros either need to be okay with him batting 8th and being streaky with flashes of good hitting, or they need to start looking for other options if they are expecting him to be a middle of the order bat. Cause he aint. and he wont.

I think McCormick is a viable cf if given chance as long term everyday guy. Then we could add a bat for dh / Lf ?

So decisions

- extend Altuve? I say absolutely 100% yes
- extend Bregman? I lean yes but only if it's not more expensive than his current deal is
- sign pitchers? Absolutely yes. Go get Hader, AJ Minter, and another dependable arm like Michael Wacha. Injuries will happen so prepare now.
- sign a corner outfielder? Yes, go get Gurriel Jr or Santander

Imagine this lineup and rotation for 150+ games

1. Altuve 2B
2. Tucker RF
3. Alvarez DH
4. Bregman 3B
5. Abreu 1B
6. Diaz C
7. Gurriel Jr/Santander LF
8. McCormick CF
9. Pena SS

1. Verlander
2. Framber
3. Javier
4. Urquidy / Wacha
5. McCullers

Brown, France, and Urquidy/Wacha as depth starters and long relief. Or McCullers honestly could go to the pen

newsflash .the Pena you got this year was the same as last year basically besides the drop in HR's. He even raised his avg and OBP this year.

What is Brantley's contract status?

And I'd argue that Chas should be their everyday CF.

Michael Brantley's tenure here was interesting. When he was healthy he was an all star. But he missed a lot more time than I thought he did when looking back.

5 seasons (3 full seasons of health if you count the shortened 2020)
- 2x All Star

394 games, .295 average (.828 OPS) 42 HR and 192 RBI

Really wish we had gotten a full season from him this year.

-Altuve, check
-Bregman, check
-Sign Hader and Neris, move on. We have too much young depth. This club isn't spending that money
-also not happening with our youth depth

You didn't mention Tucker but his arbitration will be a story line as well.

I think I understand your love for Star Wars more seeing that throwing picture. On my list of things to watch that got skipped because of baseball season is the new mini series I'm not going to butcher her name but you know what I mean

I may be in the minority but I really don't want to see Maldy back in any way.

It pissed me off last year when we had a chance to sign Vasquez but he threw a fit saying he wanted to be traded if we signed him.

If you brought him back as a backup he would probably just be disgruntled.

Yup.

He needs to go. Don't want to see him back at all. We won a WS inspite of him, not because of him. When we signed him, he was not supposed to be a permanent full time starter.

Catchers have little to nothing to do with pitcher performance.

**** my life its going to be a miserable 6 months in DFW. Its like the sips winning in 2011 and claiming an eternal scoreboard moment. I think we'll be okay next year, but there has been some major regression this year. Feels like the window is starting to shut unless some major moves and a good manager are brought in.

I'm dreading going to work tomorrow
Just another reason I LOVE working from home in this area although my neighbors have already given me crap through a group chat (which I've now left) and really dreading poker night this Thursday.

I would say yes. I think he was a bit of a fluke last year. He outperformed all his expected stats by a pretty wide margin. If I am the GM signing him. I would want his bounce-back year (after 2 bad seasons) to be more concrete and repeatable.

Edit: Spotrac has him at 5 yrs, $112,574,420. That is much more reasonable than I was expecting.
