The rangers got hot at the right time. We worked magic to win the Division, pants'd the twins, and then did our typical Home game swoon as if on cue.

The Rangers took advantage of everything. At Minute Maid park they batted .352 with RISP (13-37), we batted .138 (4-29). They had more than 3x the hits with runners in scoring position than we did. How they hell can you win a series like that when you get 4 hits with RISP in 4 home games?

Read that again, 4 hits with runners in scoring position by the Astros at MMP in the ALCS.
I think a couple of those we could only move Station to station.

I think I'd be ok with DeRosa. All I want is a manager that is ok with Analytics being a major part of the decision making, but is capable of thinking beyond analytics when it's called for. It's probably a tough balance to find, but I thought Hinch was pretty good at that. A manager that can adapt and is willing to admit they are wrong and adjust would be refreshing.

Dusty was just so stubborn to prove that his opinion was right that when push came to shove, he was so entrenched in his position that he felt trying to prove he was right and in control was ultimately more important than winning. Hard to blame lots of our players failures to perform on that, but I have to believe that "culture" affected the mindset of players to some degree.

Do we all think that Altuve gets extended this offseason? This is priority 1 for me.

What about Bregman?

This is one of the things that I hated the most and I think the players were a reflection of a lot of what Baker would say. I hated hearing in the interviews well you know "that's baseball sometimes" I remember Baker saying it a lot in the beginning of the season and then by midseason all the players were saying it. I know it is baseball and crazy things can happen but sometimes you have to adjust and make moves so the baseball can bounce your way and get the luck. But what do I know, probably nothing.

Outside of the potential big FA signing (Hader), these are the two biggest questions of the offseason. Our chances of signing them aren't zero if they don't get extended this offseason, but it drops significantly.

If you can get Altuve locked in reasonably and then Matt Chapman doesn't break the bank in free agency then I think you have some leverage to keep Bregman.

I just want a manager who's not a geriatric.

We need some new, fresh blood in this clubhouse. I want a manager who has a sense of urgency and a bit of a mean streak in them.

Hey, just wanted to say, thank you all for the GREAT season thread as always.

Sorry for my rants and for losing my cool on more than one occasion. I respect the heck of you guys and truly enjoy the banter and information provided on this thread. And thanks to those of you that have not put me on ignore, though I probably have deserved it on more than one occasion.

Looking forward to an offseason that refreshes and reinvigorates this team that still has all the pieces to be special again!

I hope they extend breggy just because he's a solid defensive 3rd baseman. His bat is also decent so I could seem them extending him
No matter what!

I'm not ready to waive the white flag on Pena yet. Next year I think will be the indicator.

Everett was playing with a bunch of juiced guys so his lack of offense was more apparent. Pena is much closer to league average.

Everett's first two full seasons came after 2 shorter stints (49) total games. He was a rookie at 26. Peña's age 26 season is year 3.

Finally, Everett's best 2 seasons were those two seasons. Unless we think Pena has peaked, the comparison is probably kind of pointless.

To dive deeper at Pena's year 1 to year 2 changes - he corrected some major problems. His K% improved from 30 percentile to 61 percentile. Same with Whiff, 18 to 31. Chase 8 to 11. xOBP 12 to 28. Basically, this was the formula to go from average to very good. The fatal flaw is that his power evaporated doing so. Brl% 65 to 10. EV 35 to 23. HH% 29 to 20. xSLG 49 to 16. If Pena can marry the two approaches, he'll leave Everett in the dust.

Pena is much better offensively than Everett. If he can figure out how to get the ball off the ground he's my candidate to have a second breakout next year. He improved his k and bb rate significantly this year.

Bryan Abreu was quickly becoming one of my favs from last years performance in the post season and this year. I am not sure what happened yesterday when he hit another batter, but I am sure hoping that it was not on purpose. No reason to keep headhunting.

Because when you keep thinking don't do this, the back of your mind plays tricks on you. It's quite possible he had a cause of the don't want to say it.

Or was it on "purpose" to prove that the first time was not on purpose......

Very confusing as to why his power dropped off a cliff. Maybe he needs to work on more core/hip strength movements that whatever his current bicep enlarging regimen is.

I don't think Pena is a natural hitter. He has a great glove and his bat is adequate to keep him in the lineup.. but it won't be a bat you rely on to produce night in and night out. I think he's better than what we saw this year but his postseason heroics were a flash in the pan.

Holy hell...I'm curious to see what that inside thigh looks like today.

I can't believe he even made it to 1B by himself then actually stayed in the game.

That was insane

I don't think it's a physical deficiency.

I think he knew he had an issue with offspeed and breaking stuff last year so he focused on recognizing and not chasing so much. In doing that he stopped punishing the 4 seams and cutters like he did in 22.

Pitch - Whiff% ('22 to '23) & K% ('22 to '23)
Change Up 41.0 to 45.0 & 25.4 to 17.5
Curveball - 42.7 to 44.8 & 33.3 to 30.8
Slider - 36.5 to 34.1 & 29.5 to 22.1
Sweeper - 47.1 to 45.7 & 44.4 to 32.7

Pitch - SLG ('22 to '23) & xSLG ('22 to '23)
4 Seam - .560 to .483 & .560 to 446
Cutter - .519 to .433 & .525 to .433

Yeah, I tend to agree with this. If I recall correctly, he had the hardest average exit velocity on the team coming out of camp in 22… obviously it did not play out that way this year.

I don't know what the driver was but Pena spent all of last season, except the playoffs, chasing sliders away. During the playoffs last year he didn't do that. This year he was back on that trip- at least in the playoffs.
