So, here's my guess on Abreu. I think he gets suspended 1 game, but I think it will either be game 1 of the WS or the first game of next season.

I don't think they're going to do it for a game 7. That's a really big talking point I don't think MLB is going to want to have.
Didn't they say his hearing was expedited to today? I think they're intentionally going under 24 hours to decide prior to game 7.

Same, it makes no sense to suspend him for the WS. They'll do it today for Game 7. Which is how it should be honestly if this was an actual offense. Abreu has pitched a lot I'm not worried about it. What would be BS is if it was somehow Game 3 or 4 of the WS.

whoever wins tonight is going to get taken apart piece by piece by the Phils

1. Philly looked the same way pre-WS last year
2. Philly looked like that after game 3 in the WS last year
3. The Phillies have home field advantage, easy 4 wins for us

Manfraud absolutely doesn't want the Astros back in the World Series. I'm not calling an ump conspiracy. But, Manfraud doesn't really care about the sign stealing. He cares that Houston stopped him from getting dodger/stanks in the WS in 2017. Then, instead of falling off the proverbial cliff, the Astros have continued winning. Continued keeping the stanks and Judge out of the WS. So, no Manfraud does not want a phils/Stros rematch. He wants the Stros to go away.

What? The Astros and everyone rooting against them has brought rating to the post-season.

Again, this is crazy talk.

No. He pitched a full 7 innings once this year and twice last year. Nothing ever beyond that.
We wouldn't want him to. Our BP should be our strength tonight.

Guess we'll see.

I guarantee you it will be a talking point if they do it for game 7 though.

I thought I had heard the collective bargaining agreement changed, and that this was no longer possible. Under the new rules, the appeal had to be heard within 48 hours and if there was a suspension, it must be served immediately. At least that is my understanding.

The question I have, is who actually hears the appeal? It should be an independent arbiter. If this is actually the case, then Abreu actually stands a chance to get it back to 0 because they are punishing him because they "think" it was intentional and the MLB office even admits that "only Abreu knows". You should not be punished for maybe (Ejection in the game should be enough punishment). That said, if it is the same MLB office that doled out the initial punishment deciding the appeal, it is 100% going to still be a suspension and they may just make it 1 game to save face at best case.

Wouldn't Astros be he higher seed against the Phillies if we win the pennant tonight, and thus the team with 4 home games instead of the Phils?

It's not about the Astros in general, but I absolutely believe that MLB didn't want the Astros to win Game 6 in favor of a Game 7. If the Astros lost Game 5, the umps might not be so bad. But I absolutely believe there's a narrative from the top that the league generally tries to follow. We see poorly called LDS/LCS/WS games all the time that sometimes blow up badly, but it's always dropped by the next season.

To the bolded, that I would not know. I thought I had read earlier MLB had the option to delay the suspension to next year if they wanted.

Guess we'll find out this afternoon.

2 and a half. And you're crazy if you don't think he has people still there that liked him or want to stick it to the Astros. Especially from that time frame.

Roger Clemens was on John and Lance this morning and he said what's even worse than this ridiculous suspension is that the league already knows what they are going to do today. Why are they waiting to tell the Astros organization until potentially 5pm? Dusty should know this morning whether Abreu is available or not, so he can get his lineup set early. But, again, Manfraud hates the Astros.

Honestly, they should tell Tucker to take Maldy's approach of crowding the plate and working the count. They're going to throw Tucker a bunch of garbage because he's swinging at everything. He's still fast and can go first to third or second to home on a single if he gets on base.

Sorry - math was off.

I mean, Dec-2020 is a pretty decent amount of time for turnover to happen. Anyone he worked with could have moved on too.

I think my position is much less crazy than the position people in MLB are being loyal to a GM that hasn't worked for the league since Dec 2020.

The fact that Schwab is peddling this makes me even more confident in my position.

Did a little digging and found: https://theathletic.com/4989191/2023/10/23/houston-astros-upset-bryan-abreu-suspension/

According to this, the suspension would have to occur immediately because it was an on-field incident versus Yuli Gurriel's suspension in 2017 being considered off-field. It seems all of this (the quick hearing and requiring suspension not be delayed) came about as a result of Chase Utley's suspension on his slide being delayed to the next regular season.

It's obvious there is an agenda against the stros this series. Every single time the Rangers pitching staff starts struggling to find the zone or get outs, there's a massive strike call that completely changes the outcome of an at bat.

Bregman in particular has been hosed time and again. I think our struggle to hit last night was a direct result of the ump behind the plate. These strike calls are going to mess with their mindset. There's no way around that.

So, Manfred is screwing the Astros over for a series that didn't happen in 2017? Are you really going with that?

Are you Michael Schwab?

Clemens also mentioned Tuck at the plate. Said he's way late to fastballs. Way early to breaking balls. He's completely lost in between. "Even fans in the stands can see it." Then, he said hopefully that late catch he made will be the spark that gets him going. Sometimes it takes one good defensive play to wake a guy up.

I've said for years that Bregs may have the best eye for the zone in all of MLB. He will RARELY ever chase a ball outside of the zone unless the umpire forces him to due to an erratic zone. If/when MLB goes to robotic umpires or some sort of challenge system at the plate, Bregs will be one of the guys that benefits drastically.

I just have a hard time placing any amount of blame on the home plate umpires or Rob Manfred when we've just flat-out sucked ass at home. It's really as simple as that. We have to find a way to score early tonight and get things rolling. Absolutely have to.

I truly think some umpires do not like Bregman because his eye for the zone is better than theirs is.

They mentioned last night on the broadcast the last person to be suspended from a playoff game was supposed to be during a LCS Gm 7, but MLB bumped the suspension to the next series because MLB decided that they didn't want the suspension occurring during a deciding GM 7.

While it is a precedent it was years ago (late 80s I think) and had nothing to do with the current MLB regime.

I'm not sure about that. I will say though, at some point I'd love to see Bregs just absolutely lose it on an umpire. He's had SO many opportunities over the years to do it.

I'll admit that the approach needs to adjust to the strike zone. The only problem is what exactly is the zone? Our guys are having to cover 4-6 inches off the plate. If it were just on outside pitches, you obviously have to have an up the middle/other way approach. Can't completely commit to that because they're getting the same call inside.
