We need more speed on our bench considering the piano carriers we have in the lineup
If SIngleton is batting we're either up or down by 10 runs or it's the 73rd inning.

Or we PH for Maldy while Diaz is the DH then Singleton hits for the pitcher. There might be a match up where we like Singleton better than our other options.

Brantley would be the better pinch hit option in that instance. Or dubon

Bench bats I'd rather get an AB than Singleton

Brantley
Diaz
Dubon

Hiked to the top of Texas (where the Astros, incidentally, are and will remain) this weekend. Will land back in the H at 3:30 and ready to hate.

Problem with meyers is he's still a bad base runner.

I'd rather see Singleton as a late inning PH than Meyers, for sure.

Singleton will give you a good AB, work the counts, maybe walk, or maybe get lucky with a homer.

Meyers doesn't really do much of that. And Singleton is a lefty.

What the hell kind of lineup do we have with those 3 on the bench?

I'm just saying … odds are 2 of those 3 are on the bench with Maldy catching.

Astros are 4-0 in playoff games this century on October 15th.

2022 - History repeats itself as the Astros close out an LDS with an 18-inning marathon. This time, it was a 1-0 shutout over Seattle with rookie Jeremy Pena supplying the game's only run with a blast into the seats in left center. Luis Garcia, normally a starter, works the last five innings of relief to sweep the A.L.D.S., 3-0. The six-hour-22-minute contest is the longest shutout game in playoff history.
2021 - In a rematch of 2018, the Astros take on Boston in the A.L.C.S. Houston gets the first punch in a 5-4 comeback victory. Jose Altuve blasts a two-run shot to tie the game at three apiece then Carlos Correa drills a solo homer in the seventh to push ahead.
2020 - Carlos Correa drills a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth over the centerfield fence to cap a 4-3 triumph over Tampa Bay in Game 5 of the A.L.C.S. and stave off elimination for another day . George Springer also homers.
2005 - Houston grabs a 2-1 lead in the N.L.C.S. with a 4-3 triumph over St. Louis. Mike Lamb doubles and homers to key a pair of two-run rallies while Roger Clemens, Chad Qualls and Brad Lidge hold the Redbirds to seven hits. Craig Biggio adds a pair of hits.

It's because the low is in the 50s that they won't leave it open. WHen I went to HEB this morning, the yuppies had busted out their scarves and boots for the occasion.

Today's my birthday and it's fitting that since the Astros and I grew up together that they give me happy birthdays whenever they can.

Now if anyone wonders why the Porkchop qualified his statement that the Astros are undefeated on this date this century, I'll save you the misery of looking it up. The damn Mets, 1986.

Two quick general thoughts:

1) Our proven ability to make in-series adjustments and redirect the momentum of the series when we're down, IMO, is our biggest advantage in this series. We can split the first two at home and be fine. I think there's alot more pressure on the Rangers to dust up JV or Framber and steal g1 or g2. If we go to Arlington up 2-0 and Javier gets a house money roll to go up 3-0, that'll be tough for the Rangers to overcome.

Regardless of what anyone (pro or anti) thinks about Maldy, he's a big part of that adjustment equation. Understanding the nuances of what opponent hitters are looking for and giving our pitchers the luxury of singular focus on executing pitches.

"But he can do that from the bench". Maybe. Maybe not. I have no interest in debating something none of us can prove. From my perspective, I'm happy Martin Maldonado is our catcher. At this point, we're committed. Ride or die.

2) There was some chatter the other day about how this is the biggest series we've played in during our run. Maybe it was a Rangers troll who posted it. Not sure. All I can say is I couldn't disagree more.

"Big" is being asked to defend the legitimacy of our dynasty the past three years in the face of scrutiny that we were only successful because we're cheaters. The baseball world was waiting to laugh in our faces if we lost to Minn in 2020. Or Oakland in 2020. They laughed when we fell behind 3-0 Tampa in 2020. All three challenges were met. We made the WS in 2021.

Then, we went to Yankee Stadium last year and stuffed our nuts into mouths of the franchise that had been most vocal with their disrespect and sh**talk. Topping the 2022 run off with a ring was the final dagger into the hearts of the haters.

Maybe it's a big series in some sort of localized, "bragging rights among friends" way. But in the grander context of the game and our 7+ year run, it's small fries. It's the third time a division foe has come at us in October. We've been here before.

If we somehow lose, ok. Let's see if the Rangers can win the WS. If they do, ok, we'll see you next year. If we meet them in the 2024 ALCS with them as defending WS champs, then we can start talking about it being a "big series" in the context of our run. Alot of baseball to be played between now and that hypothetical eventuality though.
