At the end of Aug they were 14 games behind us and 4 games out of the WC needing to jump 4 teams with 2 other 0.5 games behind them. They were being delusional at their chances.

Not surprising given they didn't use him as a defensive replacement/base runner during the ALDS. Blanco was on fire for the space cowboys in August/September.

I don't hate the move. Jake wasn't going to start over Chas or Dubon. We lose a late game pinch runner (who never impressed me on the base path) and add a bullpen arm.

His ERA in Sept is north of 6. 5 starts yet sub 20 IP.

He was elite in SL to close out the season.

He's probably just the emergency long relief (see 18 inning game Garcia) and mop up duty (see game 4 '22 WS).

I still don't get Kessinger. If he's the emergency C just put Salazar on.

But in the end I guess it doesn't matter. Neither are going to bat.

And Blanco is just insurance for insurance sake. He's got more upside than Seth but also more downside.

I think his main role is back up INF. If for some reason Dubon isn't available (already out of the game or Chas is out and we need Doobie in CF) then Kessinger can cover every spot in the INF.

Given how little length the rangers can get from scherzer and gray, I imagine they will make heavy use of long relief to try and hide the bullpen weaknesses

Eh, let's not count our chickens before they hatch. If we win the WS with Maldy, nobody will care at that point obviously.

But in this scenario?

"Astros get Swept in ALCS in a grueling match between the Rangers, losing by only 1 run in each game while Maldy goes 0 fer 20, leaving 15 people on base"

We have a big handicap with Maldy in the lineup. It is what it is. Unfortunately our manager didn't allow the new guy to play and get ROTY, or become an MVP type player in the playoffs because of it.

Or we PH for Maldy while Diaz is the DH then Singleton hits for the pitcher. There might be a match up where we like Singleton better than our other options.
