In your first scenario, the Mariners would win the division, since all 3 teams would be tied and they would have best intra-division record (head-to-head is a wash since each has a season win over another). Our only chance at winning division is to sweep and have Mariners sweep

I think in this case seattle wins it because of the tiebreaker
yes if we go 2-1 we would need the rangers to win 1
