As much as Dusty has mismanaged this season, it's still the player's jobs to go out and perform.

Two things can be true and both parties can be responsible.
This is very true. But for me it's hard not to go back to the dysfunctional organization or bad commanding officer analogy. Poor leadership more often than not produces poor results, regardless of the competence of the grunts. It is paralyzing, defeating, and demoralizing and can rot the whole lot.

Dusty said he's tired of seeing his guys get hit by opposing pitchers. It's game 159 and Dusty finally said something, likely after the game while reclining in a chair and chewing on a toothpick.

This has to be his version of a social media troll job, right?

Has Dusty challenged any calls this season? I think I remember one time, maybe

Look, we know what is missing. We've seen it start to trickle out that some of the players just don't seem to care.

The team has to want it. Don't really get that sense. They seem checked out or thinking about manana

Where was this?

All I've seen is that there is a rift between Dusty and FO and that's trickling down into the clubhouse.

I haven't seen anywhere reported that players don't care.

Dusty has the ability to lessen the negative impact the players who aren't performing can have by ceasing to bat them 2 and 4/5.

I was comparing this year's team to the 2019 Red Sox throughout the year and thought we had paced ourselves from them after August but with this massive September flop we're right back in-line with them.

2019 Red Sox
84-78 record and finished 3rd in AL East
Had a losing record at home
5-14 against the Yanks
11-15 in September
~4.95 SP ERA

it's been 23 years since a team repeated as champion. Probably every team had a reason for not repeating - free agency, retirements of key contributors, key injuries, etc.. But I think the mental and physical toil of the previous season, combined with a bit of complacency could explain some of it.

The list posted above by another poster for this season is a good one. This team set themselves up for disappointment with a terrible June and terrible September - I have no idea why it happened but it did.

Month by Month

W-L%
March .500 (only two games played)
April .538
May .630
June .481
July .600
August .607
September .391

It's been a while since anyone actually won a second straight World Series, but that doesn't mean all defending champs just lay a wet fart on the entire next season like these Astros. The 2021 Dodgers and 2022 Braves both won 100+ games. As did the 2018 Astros.

Our September is the worst month of baseball we have played in quite a while.

kudos to Luhnow and A.J.

they didn't let the 2017 champs rest on their laurels

the '18 squad was 20-10 at the end of April

came out of the gate firing on all cyclinders

and finished strong with a 21-6 record in September

I'm done placing blame, taking about offseason moves, and complaining about whatever **** moves were made earlier this year. We'll have more than enough time to overanalyze 10x over.

Today, boys, we have a game win today and another 2-3 after that. If we can, then we get October baseball, the greatest sporting event of the year. It's something we've taken for granted with all our success. I don't know about you, but I'm not ready for my calendar to open up.

Prediction: tonight Astros win 4-2

Framber gets out of some jams with double plays, and good defense.

Either Altuve, Bregman or Pena provide a huge homerun

I predict the Astros score double digit runs en route to a moderately stress-free win, and then we fret about the scoring curse for the next 48 hours.

We really need Bregman to do something. He has been killing us at the 2 & 4 hole this month.

Bullpen should be well rested, right? Abreu, Neris, Pressly, Urquidy, Stanek, Maton... arent' they all good to go?

Montero only needed 16 pitches last night, so he should be good to go too.

Afternoon baseball of note- DBacks are playing, so are Marlins and Reds. Could use an Arizona win coupled with Miami and Cubs losses, which would put Arizona on the cusp of clinching a wildcard spot with no ability to improve their slot. Might be beneficial over the next couple of days.

Source in the clubhouse said the team is pissed, not just Dusty, about the hit batters. Seeing it as a tactic to get guys out of games down the stretch.

Miller has given up zero runs and just 4 hits...in his 2 starts and 12 innings vs. the Astros

really, really need the left-handed sticks to go off

because it will be a slider-fest to the right-handed hitters...

and Miller's slider has proven very, very effective vs. the 'stros right-handed heavy lineup

Well...Someone wanna tell Servais that hitting Yanier and Chas is a bad approach since they don't play anyways.

for the season...

the Seattle pitching staff has hit 55 batters in 157 games

so to hit 3 Astros with fastballs in the first 2 games of the series...

and by the way...3 of the Astros best hitters...very suspicious

Better chance of Maldy hitting 2 HRs tonight than Pena hitting one.

Sadly, I am afraid he is broken and we will find out after the season hes been broken since May.

Its the Servais way. If we could afford to we should drill JRod in the ribs with the hardest ball Framber could throw right out of the gate. We cant afford to do it.

I bet $10 they will hit one of ours today.
