I can't really blame Dusty on that. A 3 run lead this late is pretty hard to overcome. Might as well save your best arms for a better chance to win.

That's why I edited to clarify my complaint was more that the team hasn't put him in a position to pitch by being non-competitive and always trailing late by multiple runs against the Yankees, A's and Royals

Well it's a give and take.
If you put in the better pitches, it may prevent them from playing in another game where you need them more.
I can't fault him for it. Pitchers can't always be utilized.
