Need to take care of business this week.

Also put another game back between the Stros and Twins for the 2 seed today.
ive been extremely confident in the AL West winner being the 2 seed for most of the season.

I have as well, but distance is still good. <5 game gaps can close fast if someone gets hot.

So 18 games left ... If we were to go 9-9, the M's would have to go 12-7 to catch us, and the Rangers would have to go 14-6.

With 9 games left against Oak/KC, we should be well above 9-9 record and be in an amazing spot. That said, the job is not done. Boys need to finish strong and we will end up in that 2nd seeded playoff spot that seems to be the best spot of all!

So we know we're getting Maldy tomorrow...do we also get Dubon so a hitter with an 11th best OPS in the majors, otherwise known as banana pudding, sits on the bench?

One of my years at A&M, a guy named John Curl hit 3 on Opening Day for the Aggie baseball team and led the nation in triples for like 2 months based on that.

That likely depends on Brantley. A's throwing a RHP so, yeah, probably see Brantley. Comes down to Chas or Dubon

So tomorrow is Space City Monday, and it's part of the promotions.

But tomorrow is Framber day.

Do we stick with the space city or go with the Sunday navy again?

He's been wearing orange tops lately. However I think Space City wins out.
Framber has pitched once at home on a Monday this year and the team wore the Space City uniforms.

The orange seemed to be just a funk buster. Last team he pitched they wore blue again

96 seems like a big number at this point, but I'd really like to see the team get on a hot streak and get to 30 over. If they can win 8/9 from the dwellers it might be in reach.

Looking at remaining schedules, Tampa and Toronto have two of the three hardest slates. Rangers and Mariners have the 10th and 12th hardest. Meanwhile, Houston has the second easiest to the end of the season. Twins have the third easiest, but not sure it will matter.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Which shouldn't even be a question, despite Dubon's latest hot streak but I'll be shocked if banana pudding isn't on the shelf.

Games left

3 v A's
3 @ Royals
3 v Orioles
3 v Royals
3 @ Mariners
3 @ Diamondbacks

Take care of business in the next 12 and that series in Seattle might not loom as large.

Priorities
- Win Division asap (need combo of Astros wins and Seattle losses totaling 17 from here on)
- Win 2nd seed asap (magic number is 13 here with Twins)
- Rest players after the first two are secured.

Seattle remaining series

3 v Angels
3 v Dodgers
3 @ A's
3 @ Rangers
3 v Astros
4 v Rangers

Astros go 10-2 in next 12, Seattle goes 8-4 and the Astros' magic number would be 3 entering that series in Seattle. Seattle would need to sweep to have a chance as one Astros win would reduce magic number to 1 with series at AZ left to win one more game and win the division.

Or, Astros go 12-3 in the 15 remaining games not against Seattle and Seattle would need to go 12-4 in their such games and sweep the head to head series again.

Never say never but the Astros taking care of business in the 9 games versus Oakland and Kansas City will go a long way.

If Astros go 12-3 and take 1 of 3 in Seattle then Seattle would need to go 14-2 in their remaining games including 3 v LA and 7 v a Rangers team still in the playoff hunt.

Seattle was set back going 1-3 in their series v Tampa over the weekend.

Lot of baseball left but the margin of error for Seattle is now less against a tougher remaining schedule.

Wild card here is Dusty. Thinking that can take a series or two lightly because they can win the head to head is not the way to go. You take the weaker opponents seriously and then you can handle losing the head to head.

18 games left.

I'd like to see 11-7.

We just need the angels to do us a solid and not get swept against Seattle.

After winning 12 of 13 between August 15-28th, the Mariners are just 4-8 since. They get the next 3 vs. the Angels, but then 3 with the Dodgers. Then they're on the road for 6 straight (Oakland and Texas), then home for us and Texas to end the year. Would really like to be up 4+ when we head there on 9/25 (Mike Scott Day!)

No way the Rangers are going to tank to "get us" at the end of the year. They've got 7 games with the Mariners in 10 days, no way they'll be so far out of the wild card that they won't compete.

The Angels beat Cleveland 3 out of 4 to snap out of a 1-9 stretch that included 6 straight losses and getting swept by the A's. We need to just keep winning. Relying on the Angels to do anything other than squander the primes of future HOFers is dicey.

We are in a weird spot to me.

Obviously winning the division is our #1 goal. But I'd also like Seattle to be the 2 seed in the wildcard and go to the other side. That seems to be a terrible matchup for us, and that started last year in the playoffs.

If some how the Jays could start losing that'd be great.

Really curious what our playoff rotation would be.

JV
Framber
France?
Javier?

Brown to the bullpen for long relief along with Urquidy? SP is definitely our weakest link after the top 2. France has done really well this season but you wonder how he'd do come playoffs.

Javier is looking more and more like his issues won't be fixed this season.

Luckily you can get by in the playoffs with less starters so this isn't totally disastrous, but we really need to maximize those JV/Framber games which is why it's awful that Dusty never has Diaz catch with them.
Has anyone asked him why Diaz hasn't caught either one of them yet for some familiarity for the playoffs? He has to know Maldy could get injured or is that just fan stuff?

Apparently it's only fine for Maldy to get used to working with Brown/France, but Diaz role just continues to diminish DESPITE him throwing runners out more, less runs being scored in his games, better pitch framing, and we all know the massively better hitting.

I just don't get it. Nothing I have seen tells me Diaz is below Maldy when it comes to the act of being a catcher. Dusty plays him so sparingly that he must believe he's some major liability waiting to happen behind the plate. It hasn't happened.
Now that Maldy has been exposed by the Padres I fully expect more teams to run like crazy on him until he can prove he can throw them out...it's like the NFL, once they find a weakness it will be exploited over and over until you fix it.

Normally I would expect a manager to take action to ensure it doesn't cost us down the road, especially in the playoffs, but....sigh.

Also, if Maldy has such a great rapport with pitchers why isn't he telling them to hold runners better so he has a chance to throw them out...at least that's the excuse Donkey is giving, it's the pitcher's fault (which can be true but doesn't explain why Diaz is throwing them out at a nice clip).
Padres didn't expose anything this week. Maldy has been crap defensively behind the plate the entire year which is which he's damn near last in every defensive stat possible.
