Do other teams intentionally not play +3 WAR players?

Had anyone ever seen a manager intentionally not play his best players?

I'm not sure I have ever seen this. We aren't talking about Deshawn Watson here. I have never seen a manager intentionally choose to play worse significantly worse players night after night.
