Jose Altuve will be the third Astro to be inducted into the HOF and like Biggio and Bagwell he will have been a lifetime member of this club.

There's no reason to extend Altuve early. You don't see vets under contract get extended early to end their career.

I'm with you that he must be kept but do it when the contract expires

Remember boras is his agent. He will manipulate the process of he hits free agency so he's not an Astro

Completely disagree and if that's the case why would he sign early and he dang sure wouldn't be doing anything team friendly to ensure he retires here

Altuve won't ever wear another uniform. He's an Astro for life.

It's a misconception that Boras always manipulates to get guy the biggest deal. He does what the player wants. The guys that want big money are the ones that get the most press, but he has gotten extensions to keep his guys home, too. Altuve is an example. He signed an extension to stay in Houston before his last contract was up. It wouldn't surprise me if he did that again. Although I'm sure he wants to be paid well, Altuve doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who wants to be the highest paid player in the game. He seems more like he just wants to be on a contender and have fun. Unless the Astros decide they are going to blow the whole thing up and aren't going to contend anymore, I bet he stays.

There's no guarantee he's going in as an Astro

Question is will JV go into the HOF as an Astro or a Tiger... right now, I'm guessing Tiger...

Need a 3rd ring to seal the deal!

That might do it... Also passing 300 wins as an Astros would be massive

JV loves it here but Detroit holds a special place in his heart. I think it's 65/35 leaning Detroit right now.

Not his choice, right? Not disagreeing with your second point, but the first one plays no part... unless things have changed.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

yes, I don't think there is a replacement in the farm system for Bregman

like there was for Correa (Pena) and Springer (Tucker).

I suppose the Astros could let both Altuve and Bregman hit free agency together (after the 2024 season) -- that would make for a busy offseason for the fans and the front office

looking back...it's hard to believe a major market team like the Red Sox would trade away a player of his talent...

but that's what payroll prison and going "all-in" can do to a franchise --- even the rich ones

If JV finishes out his contract here, it puts it at 12-1/2 years in Detroit and 8-1/2 in Houston I believe. With 3 or more rings, I don't see how he doesn't go in as an Astro. Let's see how it plays out.

JV will go in as a Tiger. The only way this becomes a question is if he continues at a high level with the Astros for another 4 years minimum.

All had to do with David Price. I think they also felt like they had a strong chance to sign him as a FA. Didn't work out.

NLCS preview with LA & ATL. I hope we make it though to the WS & face LAD. We took 3 early from ATL, but I'll take my chances w/LAD. ATL is stacked.

JV can go in as an elf for all I care. There's two WS titles in no small part due to him, and the opportunity for more.

Or, 'fan stuff.'

On re-signing Altuve, Bregman, Tucker...

George Springer is not an Astro. Once upon a time that would've been unthinkable. But it happened. As it did with Correa, but I think most of us expected that. Just not that the Great White North would be the greener pasture for him.

In hindsight, from a business and baseball perspective those were the right calls.

Just can't see the Astros doing the same with Altuve. Also maybe I'm wrong but I don't think stupid money will be thrown at Altuve in free agency by other clubs for a mid 30s infielder, regardless of name.

Bregman? Hard to say. He'll be 30 when he hits free agency. The trajectory of his offensive production has gone downward since 2018/2019. Then it looked like he was headed to an elite level. Since, injuries and what not have brought him down to Earth. I could see him return or be the odd man out.

Which brings us to Tucker. Free agent in 2026. He'll hit free agency as a 29 year old RF. But for Shohei-time, he'd be the leading AL MVP candidate. Hate to say it, it feels like the Astros will be simply outbid if he continues to play at this level.

Still, glory, laud and praise to all that is most holy that the Astros were able to lock in Yordan for half or less of his true value through 2029. Man.

I mean, seriously, if Alvarez hit free agency this summer, same as Ohtani, wouldn't he get one of those 10 year, $400 mil contracts that were being tossed around like candy last offseason, at least? Lose out on Shohei-time, settle for half a billion with Yordan?

My understanding is that when your spot comes up you can get as many players as you want. From MLB's website:

Could one team claim every player?

Yes. Making a successful waiver claim doesn't impact a club's claiming priority, so one club could theoretically claim every available player, though it would need to clear 40-man roster spots for all of them and take on the remaining money owed to each player.
