The funny thing is that we stumbled into that formula on the way to a title in 2017 to work around a terrible bullpen, but we seem resistant to use it now.

I have long thought that in this era of increased bullpen usage, relievers get overexposed in a 7 game series. Tandem starters are a great way to shake that up when you can go 4-3-1-1 for example).

A dominant starter with a strong bullpen behind him is always the best option, but JV and France are the only guys who can competently pitch 5-7 innings right now.

In the playoffs, I don't know why you wouldn't go tandem in other starts. I doubt they would ever do that with Framber, but you could also go:
JV
Framber
Javier/France
Urquidy/Brown

Graveman and Maton as firemen
Montero and Stanek as middle relief
Pressly, Abreu, Neris at the backend

Yanier doesn't make that play imo.

No doubt Abreu has had a rough year at the plate but it might still end up working out.
