I could see a player who's trying to improve their approach from a free swinger to a more calculated pitch taker see this happen to them. You see more pitches and maybe take too many good pitches early, then end up feeling like you have to swing at worst pitches deep in the count.
I feel like the trajectory he's on though, with how young and athletic he is will see him improve. Adding 3% to BB% while shaving 3% off Ks is a great sign. This will eventually lead to better contact and more barrels usually.
Circling back to the increased ground balls. I wonder how many of them have come with 2 strikes and him swinging and putting in play a pitch that's out of the zone that as he matures he'll lay off of.
2 strike counts... his ground ball ratio is astronomical.

That 2 strike swing ain't cutting it. He's so worried about the slider and sweepers that he's not able to do damage with the fastball.

Yep. There's no stats that I can find, but I wish we could see is in the zone and out of the zone swing % in that 2 strike count. I bet he's chasing bad.

Probably because they're hitting a cool .280 or so with RISP and won some close games because of it. Pitching is meh and defense is, well...you know.
