Dug in on Pena's fangraphs the other day. Was actually encouraging. His BB% is up and K% down.
His power is fallen off because he's hitting a crap ton more ground balls. Which I know has been noticed on here. I've noticed it. Pitchers are getting him to roll over a lot.
He's getting eaten up by fastballs this year... after he pounded them last year.
I could see a player who's trying to improve their approach from a free swinger to a more calculated pitch taker see this happen to them. You see more pitches and maybe take too many good pitches early, then end up feeling like you have to swing at worst pitches deep in the count.
I feel like the trajectory he's on though, with how young and athletic he is will see him improve. Adding 3% to BB% while shaving 3% off Ks is a great sign. This will eventually lead to better contact and more barrels usually.

ircling back to the increased ground balls. I wonder how many of them have come with 2 strikes and him swinging and putting in play a pitch that's out of the zone that as he matures he'll lay off of.
