Fair. He's one of two with a title. I think if we polled the thread Hinch would be preferred.

The Braves are the freaking MonStars this year. Nobody beats them. If we play them in the series I'll cheer till my heart bursts but that team is next level.

Jimmy Williams could have won a title last year with that roster

I guess I can give Dusty credit for not running the Ferrari off a cliff but that's about it

I mean he annoys me but yeah you're totally right. 3 seasons, 3 ALCS, 2 pennants and a title.

If we make the ALCS again this year I think it's a no brainer

We had a better chance per Fangraphs back in 2019.

Come on, now. Dusty as the Astros manager is the equivalent of Barry Switzer with the Cowboys. Gotta give most of the credit to the prior regime because a lot of it was just riding coattails.

I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Sorry, good vibes only. I'm positive Dusty can turn it around and continue riding the coattail!

True but also Hinch was given an even better roster arguably in 2018-2019 than Dusty had in 2022 and didn't win it all. And you could argue we lost the 2019 WS based on a bad decision Hinch made in game 7.

To me Dusty and AJ are 1A and 1B for greatest manager but that could change in either direction based on how this season and postseason play out.

I think 2019 was our best overall roster, but I would take 22 over 18. Tony Kemp & Tyler White got postseason starts in 18. Alvarez & Tucker weren't up yet. Hinch won it all in 17 with some seriously flawed pitching & a roster full of guys who didn't have worlds of experience. Hinch did more with less while also doing less with more depending on the year.

Bill Virdon or GTFO!!!! Just kidding but since he was the manager when I first started following the Stros I thought I'd throw him a bone.

we can resume the discussion after the game...

but if we're talking best regular season managerial job...Garner and Dierker are in the conversation

they got the 'stros to the playoffs with a flawed roster -- a time or two -- during their tenure

the Astros haven't had any flawed rosters during the golden era (2017-2023). Have they?

and speaking of former managers...and since the Astros had a team meeting yesterday...

time to recall Dierker's comments on team meetings...

he said he didn't like them. Because if you have a team meeting and lose again...then what?

100% agree. I've never liked "team meetings". And yes, what happens if you go out and get beat the next day?

I mean from an objective perspective, it is pretty funny to look at Dusty's record in the last decade.
Throw out COVID 2020 and what he's done.

2012 Reds: 97-75
2013 Reds: 90-75
2016 Nationals: 95-67
2017 Nationals: 97-65
2021 Astros: 95-67
2022 Astros: 106-56
2023 Astros in progress: 70-55

Bet you thought Jeriome Robertson got screwed out of Cy Young consideration in 2003, too.

Smashed off the scoreboard and Chas was shaken up so Peña ran out and grabbed it

Javi needs to stop aiming and nibbling edges and throw the MFin ball.
