Because he had to catch you put the league's worst hitter and worst defensive catcher in the lineup. He costs runs both ways.
So now you try to find a way to put the much better hitter in the lineup as well but you put him at a position he has no idea how to play so he costs runs defensively.
Now you have 2 bad defenders. So what you you do? You triple down and play Dubon in LF, a position he literally doesn't play.
All of this is 100% because somehow Machete has his Machete in every pitcher's hoo ha.

Is it insane? The amount of opportunities they've blown all year is staggering. The manager is a joke who openly doesn't care about giving the team the best chance to win. The co-ace has reverted to a complete head case and the #2 coming into the year apparently had dead arm. They start the worst position player in the league almost every night. They're among the league leaders in unearned runs. They don't win at home.
I think having to stave off a sweep tomorrow to avoid essentially getting passed by what the Mariners are showing is now a better team is pretty in line with things as they are.

It's absolute insanity how much these terrible decisions are killing this team and destroying any momentum we have.
Imagine any other team regularly starting a .550 OPS with worse defensive metrics over a .820 OPS
