Of all the things Maldy gets criticized for, this is the one that is the most justified based on expectation. I expect him to hit .180, so when he does, no surprise. His CS rate being lower than Diaz isn't as big a deal to me, because he is still right at league average, and I think it may reflect more on whom he normally catches for. (Diaz and the young pitchers have been in the minors in recent years with the pitch clock and the limited throwovers, so I'm thinking they have probably focused more on holding runners on and being quicker to the plate than guys who have been on the big league club for more than 3 years.

How he fails to catch a baseball with runners on baffles me.

As far as the stolen bases go, I'm having to listen this season rather than watch, and I cannot tell you how many times Ford or Sparks have said after a steal that the pitcher gave Maldy no chance. The runner stole it off whoever was on the mound. Tonight's steal they said was as much on Bregman because of where he received the ball. They said the throw was there in plenty of time.

The mlb failed at banning the shift. I knew teams would just figure out how to anyway. The SS catching a line drive to the right of second base is what the league thought they would get rid of but they weren't strict enough

As long as you are one step to the side of the bag (when the pitch is made) you are supposed to be on, you are fine. Seems that teams have been cheating up the middle a little more recently against our lefties. Would be interesting to see if any of these shortstops are actually moving across second as the pitch is delivered
