Of all the things Maldy gets criticized for, this is the one that is the most justified based on expectation. I expect him to hit .180, so when he does, no surprise. His CS rate being lower than Diaz isn't as big a deal to me, because he is still right at league average, and I think it may reflect more on whom he normally catches for. (Diaz and the young pitchers have been in the minors in recent years with the pitch clock and the limited throwovers, so I'm thinking they have probably focused more on holding runners on and being quicker to the plate than guys who have been on the big league club for more than 3 years.The D said:

As far as the stolen bases go, I'm having to listen this season rather than watch, and I cannot tell you how many times Ford or Sparks have said after a steal that the pitcher gave Maldy no chance. The runner stole it off whoever was on the mound. Tonight's steal they said was as much on Bregman because of where he received the ball. They said the throw was there in plenty of time.
