Castillo on the mound tomorrow night for the Mariners

he's another upper echelon pitcher

Kirby is an upper echelon pitcher -- need the all-stars / power hitters in the lineup

Don't think those two guys make a difference in the outcome tonight. Just based on the eyeball test and the approach at the plate

Well, go get 'em tomorrow boys. You know a clunker is possible with Altuve and Alvarez out, not to mention Maldy batting.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

I fully expect we'll be scoreboard watching the Mariners in a month instead of the Rags

That rotation is stupid good and I think they go on a serious run soon if they aren't already

Who knows how the game might've turned out if we hadn't send Maldy and Madris to the plate during our best run scoring chances.

How did Chas not beat that out? Deep in the hole, a lofted bouncing throw. He should have beat that out easy.

Agreed, he must have not gotten a good jump out of the box.
Also, as much as I have loved him, what was he doing shoving his hand into the face and glove of the 1B man?? That's really some shady stuff and not what our players need to be doing if they want to remove the stigma of cheating….

I disagree about the cheating stigma. The play was bush league; not cheating.

Of course it was bush league. I wasn't implying it was cheating, I'm simply saying that we clearly have the "cheating stigma" so we don't need any sort of actions, whether it's cheating or bush league, that personifies that.
Maybe this is the behavior that dusty has seen all along and hasn't liked from Chaz. Clearly dusty doesn't like him, and while I've liked his play this year, that moment on his way to first tonight definitely made me think much less of him

Having Maldonado start 4 games out of 5 and being pitch hit for in EVERY clutch late inning situation he comes up for is ridiculously stupid.

That's like taking out your starting quarterback as soon as the clock hits 2:00 in the 4th quarter of every close game. At a certain point, he just shouldn't start if you don't trust him late in the game.

if the Mariners thought it was bush league...they will retaliate against Chas

they are that kind of team

That's all dusty needs to justify leaving him on the bench the rest of the series

Hopefully Dusty doesn't have a Tony LaRussa moment and tell the media he'd be OK if they throw at him

Servais would do it not as payback but as motivation for his own team. He would happily throw a pitcher under the bus just to do it.

Chas for Alek Thomas, who says no? D-Backs have too many lefty OF and may prefer a more proven hitter for this year's playoff run. We get a younger lefty CF with upside based on minors track record. Thomas has been good against righties but awful vs lefties. Not a major problem for us because we are looking for a righty hunter. My thought is that also opens up Gilbert or Melton as trade chips to get another pitcher.

Yeah, it's pretty apparent not only to us but also the guys in the clubhouse that Dusty has a problem with Chas. It's a personality clash more than anything. Dusty is an old school guy and Chas likes to goof around. He doesn't go about his business the same way some of the vets on the team do. I'm certainly not saying Dusty is in the right. I'm just saying what I've been told.

I'm also not saying Chas doesn't work hard. He just doesn't go about it the same way other guys do. And it rubs Dusty the wrong way.

I don't know any specific details and don't want to speculate.

The Astros have been bullish on Thomas in the past and inquired about a year ago. The price was too high. Maybe the price has come down since then with his struggles. Haven't heard his name mentioned this year though.

If Chas is moved I think it will be for an arm with multiple years of control. Not sure if a starter or a reliever but that's my hunch.

Which is absolutely insane to me. Dusty may not have his ring if it weren't for the catch Chas made to save game 5.

Seems like a good manager could get past the personality clash if the results are acceptable

Then what you are saying is that it is not a Chas issue but a Dusty issue. Leaders lead by example. If Chas is not doing something the way Dusty likes it then he needs to find a way to motivate him to do it the way he wants. Not everyone is the same and as a MANAGER it is your job to manage. It is also your job to not be petty.

If this is truly the case then it is a top down issue since they are not able to motivate Dusty in a way to get him to play the best option every day. I will swing by half price books today and grab them some books on leadership.

Chas for a reliever would be wild. I'm trying to come up with a name that makes sense and it's so weird. Airbender? He's elite with a few years of control. Not sure the Brewers would want to move him. Mariners had loads of pitching. Could we get Matt Brash? He's only a second year guy but shown flashes. Alex Lange? Not sure he's good enough.

Seeing as he's one of the few productive hitters in our lineup, moving chas would be insane unless you are getting a controllable power hitter who is better defensively to replace him (whether through that trade or another one).

Dusty would have just sat there and chewed on his toothpick rather than be bothered to stand up for his players

The guys in the bullpen slowly jogging in always get me. They have no desire to get involved and just want to sit in their lean backed chairs with their sunflower seeds. Plus bench clearings in baseball are a joke 99% of the time anyway. Let's run a year of hockey rules and see what happens.

If we trade Chas is the plan to shift Dubon to CF permanently; assuming a healthy lineup?

How did Crane put it to Click "are you willing to bet your career on Jake Meyers"?

Who the hell would take that gamble right now? Dude has been ass-ass

Poorly timed giveaway. He gave up 7 runs in 2 innings last night

In fairness, you could argue giving away the Yordan bat-flip bobblehead last night while he's on the IL and we lost due to no offense was pretty unfortunately timed as well.

think back to last year when Kirby plunked Altuve after a perceived slight (by the Mariners dugout)

Altuve was not involved in the slight, but was designated for payback

some teams would have let it go

Yeah that will be the ultimate last laugh for Click, imo, if the Astros keep Meyers and play him in CF every day. Now, don't get me wrong, Jake is probably going to end up being a decent player, but never an All Star. I doubt Chas will be a regular All Star either, but he's definitely earned some respect from the team, at the least.

So I'm a Julks believer now. Dude just produces and provides a great spark.

I'm assuming he can't play CF? If not I'm not sure how we can get him ABs when Yordan comes back because I expect he gets plugged into LF with Diaz DHing.

Does he become the OFer that gets dealt?

Checking in on the Astros young OFs...since June 2nd:

Julks leads with 102 Plate Appearances in 27 games. In that time he's doing pretty well. .322/.402/.467, 9 SB, 3 HR, 147 wRC+. Oh, and his walk rate has jumped to 11.8%, and K down to 18.6%. That's such a drastic flip from earlier in the season.

Chas has 91 PA, .309/.385/.519, 4 SB, 4 HR, 153 wRC+. 7.7% BB, 24.2% K.

Meyers 77 PA, .197/.299/.303, 4 SB, 1 HR, 72 wRC+. 13.0% BB, 22.1% K
