It looks like Yordan will miss around 6-7 weeks. Expect that for Altuve.

As we have discussed before, picking up platoon bats only matters if your manager knows how to deploy players and construct a lineup. It makes no sense for us.

To me, now that some of the bats are finding their groove, the only bats that move the needle for me are full time OF. A home-run acquisition like Robert would allow you to move Chas to LF and have a supreme offensive and defensive OF, while a quality acquisition like a Verdugo would allow you to keep Chas in CF and have a quality OF, plus the added benefit of an additional LH.

I noticed that Verdugo has massive Home/Away splits this year, but that has not been his trend in other years in Boston. Noise, or an indicator that he is exploiting the Green Monster for his doubles? I am just trying to anticipate how his approach plays here vs. Fenway.

I see Dusty trying to get Madris ABs vs RHP. Point for him doing platoons correctly.

He's averaging about 3 SO per start which is about his avg over the last 3.5 seasons. I expect a ton of balls put in play. That isn't a good thing for Colorado as they're 2nd to last in baseball in OAA (-16). Only the Red Sox are worse.

Giants are contending so don't see Joc being traded. Verdugo has another year of control. No clue what he would cost but it could be surprising high. Willing to do Gilbert for him? Because that's what the Sox might ask for.

They might indeed ask, but no, I would not give up our #1 prospect for 1.5 years of Verdugo.

Agreed. I think 1-2 guys in the 5-15 range. Something like Leon & Jaime Melendez.

I agree with this price tag - and that would probably be a win-win for both teams.

You don't trade a top prospect for anything less for controllable All-Star talent. Robert and Cease, both with the White Sox, are the only two players even hypothetically available that I would consider including Gilbert for.

The years of Garcia, Guillen, and Halama for 2+ months of Randy Johnson are long gone in baseball as teams know the value of young controllable talent.

If that was all it took the deal would already be done. Keep in mind the Sox don't have to trade him. They are big market and expect to contend next year. They may just keep him and collect the draft pick after next year.

I think that's even too much. I don't wanna trade 1/2 top 5-15 prospects for 1.5 years of a 4th OFer platoon bat.

Look at the Vazquez trade last year. We gave up two guys who were IIRC near the bottom of the top 30 list.

Granted it was only for 1/2 season but IMO another full season of Verdugo isn't worth that much more.

Or that's the price July 30th. Red Sox aren't out of it yet.

Why do you consider him a 4th OFer? He's got a OPS+ of 110 over the last 4.5 seasons ranging from 102 to 123. That's not too dissimilar from Chas but left handed or a somewhat lesser Brantley. He'd be ideal to play LF, DH, and spot start in RF.

I was off the thread during the game yesterday (pool, drinks and BBQ were my priority while watching), but was Bielak remaining in the rotation discussed? I prefer him over Blanco. Especially after yesterday, even though it was vs the Rockies

Lance McCullers ring giveaway today. Now I can remember all of the amazing things he did in the 2022 season to help us secure a WS title.

It's not just where they are ranked. I don't mind moving Leon because we have a lot of OF anyway. I'd probably rather trade Melton because I think Leon has a solid floor as a very good defensive CF who can steal bases but really this is in Dana to figure out who other teams like that he likes less.

They're similar in that they both allow way too many runners and have been lucky to have the results that they do. I think with as healthy as we can be our best 5 are Framber, Javier, Brown, France, & Urquidy. Bielak, Blanco, & Dubin can share the back end / 6th spot until everyone is good to go.

I count Chas/Jake as 1 because before too long I think one is moved

There is very little reason to play Yordan in LF most of the time.
