Somehow Miami is 13 games above .500 with a -8 RD. One of those things isn't sustainable.

If they regress hard maybe you can pry Soler from them. Otherwise that's not happening.

SF is still 6 over .500 and in the last WC spot. They just went 3-7. Behind them are some bad teams though. Getting Pederson will take them having a bad month.

it is amazing how playing on a world series winning team...elevates the perception or value of a player

Bradley jr. and Benintendi from the Red Sox...2018 title

and many of the Cubs from the 2016 title

Its the Fun Differential

2023 Miami = 2021 Mariners

With the trade deadline looming it's always fun to play arm chair GM… but I'm curious what are moves you wanted us to make in the past that would have been HORRIBLE.

For example: once Correa left after 2021, I really wanted us to sign Kris Bryant and move Bregman to short. I also thought trading for Sonny Gray at the 2017 deadline would be a "game changer"

It's pretty crazy how none of the "big" deals we missed out on look great in hindsight. Maybe Cole would have been a good keep but the rest? It's pretty apparent paying for past performance doesn't get you a ton anymore.

While not a big deal, I think the biggest "miss" was not bringing back Charlie Morton. Especially given we faced him and lost to him twice in back to back postseasons. He would have been cheap and IMO we win the 2020 World Series if he's on our team and not Tampa. He went 2-0 against us in that ALCS with 11 shutout innings.
Does anyone remember the details on Morton and why we couldn't keep him over Tampa. Did we think he was too injury prone or something, I can't recall but yeah, we likely win in '20 with him.

I believe it was the 3rd year option we were scared of paying him at 37.

That and we had to start paying JV, Cole, and Keuchel in 2019-2020 if we wanted to keep them.

A buddy of mine with the 'Stros at the time (he left the org a long time ago), told me the Astros thought Charlie's shoulder wouldn't hold up.

I don't want anything to do with Bellinger. I don't worry as much about on the field with him as I do in the clubhouse. After 2017 and his comments how are our guys gonna want him in the clubhouse

Maldy is playing through a hand injury right now. We may see a little less of him over the next couple weeks.

He could have that hand amputated and Dusty would still start him.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

I have no idea what the extent of the injury is. It could be super minor and he's back tomorrow for all I know. But he's been dealing with it for a while and the recent days off lead me to believe they're giving him some rest for it to heal up.

Probably sustained having to throw to second so often with all the running on him of late.

Don't exaggerate. Dusty would only start him if it was his left hand.

Nobody cares about that as long as he apologizes and hits. You're greatly underestimating how much grace guys will give to someone that helps them win.

What he has done is entry level dewshery. Nothing even close to Osuna.

Speaking of Yainer

+3 Blocks Above Average (only 841 block opportunities compared to 1,100 to 2,500 for others with +3).
-2 Catcher Framing Runs (not great but better than -7 for his teammate)
+4 Catcher's CS Above Avg (tied for 5th in baseball)
