It shouldn't happen at all. It only works if the batter stands there and doesn't run hard to 1b.

Or on purpose if the runner at first is fast and they want him off the bases and want the batter who would be slower.

Well we actually do need prospects. Our farm is terrible. It does help our big league club because we are left with only one CF so Dusty has to play Chas more. It's basically a win win.

Good point, you have to have someone loafing to first or it doesn't work so you have to take a peek at the batter to see if he's just jogging it out.

Odor punching Bautista is celebrated more in the Metroplex than almost winning a World Series. There's a mural somewhere.

With everyone healthy, these are the players that should be in the lineup everyday except for the occasional day off:

Altuve 2B
Peña SS
Alvarez LF/DH
McCormick CF (I'm coming around to him)
Abreu 1B
Diaz C
Bregman 3B
Tucker RF
Brantley LF/DH

It seems simple. I also know it will never happen.

I'd put Dubon in there instead of Chas as of now

With everyone healthy….what an asinine statement when half that list is injured.

I'm not sure there is anything simple about that lineup.

Obviously it depends on what we get back, but imo trading Chas makes us worse, this year. I doubt we will get an everyday CF better than him in a straight trade. If we get a comparable LF we get worse at the plate with Meyers in CF. Plus Julks will still get half the ABs.

I guess it's not my job, though.

Are we certain that Brantley coming back from injury will be better than what Dubon is doing now?

No reason to be certain of that and at this point I just don't even expect Brantley to ever return in terms of 'counting on it.' When/if he does, great.

we should try and get Wacha. Having a great year and should be pretty easy to get. Plus he's an Aggie!

I think in the here and now, that was our best infield yesterday and Peña needs to be the one that spells people when they need a rest. Dubon has to start for the team the rest of the season

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Dubon has been the team's MVP behind Yordan this year. His versatility has been invaluable with all of the injuries. And it seems like he has a crucial AB in every win.

Was doing the immaculate grid game this morning and did very poorly. So I started looking at baseball reference and noticed the Cincinnati Reds and the Houston Astros have the same number of playoff appearances. I found that surprising considering the Reds have been around for over a hundred years.

However the Reds have more success in those appearances overall.

Dubon will play plenty as an outfielder and all over the infield as guys take days off, and DH from time to time.

Pena is a gold glove SS and ALCS and WS mvp. There is no way he comes out of the line up when you still have guys like Maldy, Julks, Meyers taking spots regularly. There is plenty of room for both, even if/when we get Brantley and Alvarez back.

And we aren't talking playoff lineup. We are talking almost 80 games left when guys will not start every day. When you get to the playoffs you will have to make some decisions for centerfield (maybe McCormick against lefties and dubon against righties) but that's assuming everyone is available which is a huge assumption.

It's kind of hard to realize for people like me who grew up in the era of the big red machine in the 70s, but the Reds were really a pretty dismal franchise before that.

Maybe I am missing something but why are people wanting Dubon over Chas? Chas gets on base better, hits for more power, and steals more while on base. Whiles it's not a giant gap, he also hits the ball harder and more often.

And that playoff births were ridiculously hard to come by for the majority of baseball unlike today.

Yep, 4 teams per year.

As good as the Reds were in the 70s, the Dodgers were that good, also. Only one could win the NL West.

Good point. I always forget that the playoffs were only two rounds until very recent. The current era is going to explode everyone's numbers.

ALCS, NLCS, and WS appearances should be the only thing counted imo.

Divisions weren't a thing until 1969. Before then it was the AL and NL champs in the World Series. Second place was for losers.

Why is it either / or? When Yordan is back, the lineup should be:

DH - Altuve (terrible defensively)
3B - Bregman
LF - Yordan
1B - Abreu
RF - Tucker
CF - Chas
SS - Peña
C - Diaz
2B - Dubon (GG level at 2B)

For flyball pitchers you can probably go Altuve at 2B and Dubon in LF.
MaxPower

Winning the division meant more when there were only two in each league. I'm hoping they go back to that when they inevitably expand. Four 8 team divisions. Division winners get byes with 4 wild cards from each league battling it out in the wild card round.

I agree with this in theory but it will never happen. No way they remove Altuve from everyday 2B
