This move doesn't make sense. I get we need extra bullpen for today, but why send down a starter?
I'm assuming he won't start again until after the ASG and we need extra pen arms immediately. Like today.
Our pitching is a hot flaming mess right now.
Barring a pitcher being added to the IL, he cannot be brought back for 15 days. That would mean he couldn't come back until 7/18, which is the Tuesday after the all-star break. By then, we will have played 3 games after the break against the Angels Friday-Sunday, and 7/17 is an off day. Maybe they can shuffle things around enough to make it work, but it seems kinda iffy to me. Blanco's next start would have been Wednesday against the Rockies. As fans we see the problem. Has the team given any indication that they aren't happy with his play? He's playing behind the dish like 90% of the time. I think any shot of getting DFA'd is just fans being hopeful.
If not, then there are two options: the people running the org are either stupid, or don't care about winning as much as think they did or should.

Dana seems deferential to Dusty when asked about some of his logic-defying decisions. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes. Dusty shows an obsessive-level of favoritism towards veterans to the detriment of the team because, in his mind, he's paying forward what he thinks others didn't give him in his managerial career, which is a long leash. Baker said Mushinski was brought here because today will be sort of a bullpen game and Blanco wasn’t going to start again before the All-Star break anyway.

Option 3 (basically option 1) is they think Maldy's value to help pitchers outweighs the Diaz's negative value to hurt pitchers.
I'm not sure what y'all are expecting for a lineup but what you see is what you get. If you put Diaz at C you have to find someone else to DH. Without Peña that leaves Madris or Meyers or Kessinger. No matter who you choose it's a **** show.

You can only make 15-day IL stints retroactive by 3 days. Today is the 3rd day in a row he hasn't played. They don't really have anyone else they could call up to take his place, so they're kinda stuck.
Driving back from colorado yesterday I was able to listen to the entire rangers broadcast and it was very interesting listening to them speak about Maldy in particular from a non Astros bias position. Everything they were saying was basically what everyone here has been mentioning the entire year.

Bruce B was asked after the game why they were stealing so much and basically he said that the rangers aren't a running team in particular but in series where the opportunity presents itself they will run. So basically he was saying Maldy sucks so we are gunna send runners whenever the opportunity arises.
Pathetic dusty can't start Diaz behind the plate and have Chaz in the lineup. I don't give a crap what his splits are. Maldy brings nothing to this team and Chaz deserves to play everyday. .

You don't get it. You're either one of Dusty's guys or you're not. It's like the Italian mafia. Machete and Julks are made men. Chas is like the guy who's half Jewish so even though he's lifting all the load making **** happen he will never make it to the inner circle.

Julks isn't Willie Mays but he is nowhere close Maldy bad. I expect one of McCormick, Myers or Julks is going to be traded. I'd probably go with Myers. CF is a hole and they have done nothing to fix it since Springer left and they have had opportunities.
I would think the opposite. He has a pass this year. He's better off making sure the team is healthy long-term. Missing the playoffs now has no impact on his career but missing it 2 years in a row a few years from now will put him on the hot seat. He already knows his farm is garbage, so he has to be at least mildly concerned with how he's replacing guys likely to depart via free agency over the next 2 years.W said:
