Wonder if there is value in getting ahead of the market and making a deal now. Gotta have a dance partner, but I would expect waiting until the deadline raises the price. Didn't someone do this last year? Mariners?

The problem is there's a few teams who aren't sure what they're going to do. The White Sox owner wants to be aggressive and thinks he has the talent to win... he's even considering being a buyer. No telling how long that lasts but he's not looking to move anyone now. The Phillies are another team kinda stuck in the middle. The Cubs aren't completely out of it yet. Several teams like that.

Guess it depends on what type of news he receives. If its another surgery he could have 12-18 months of rehab possibly. Maybe he is done with the grind and just wants to golf every day?

So he could
1) retire and forego money
2) not play and just rehab and try to get back and collect another $60+ million between now and the end of 2026.

I would get out front early if for no other reason is the longer you wait the longer you can fall behind.

Like i said pending the results. Tough crowd. If its really bad news that could affect his life later on then why chance it. If its another labrum or whatever sure he just rehabs and cashes a check. In the end Nobody knows how he feels though and what goes into his thought process. Sometimes guys walk away from

12 pitches thanks to Alvarez fouling a few off. It's a start, at least. Hard to extend pitchers when you have few baserunners.
