The ability to actually hit the ball on an even semi-regular basis will be the difference between fighting for the division and fighting for a wild card. It is already the soon-to-be-4.5 game difference in the current standings.

That can't be… I've been told now for a month that they will start sucking again. It's impossible for teams to improve after making good draft picks and free agent signings

This game is the perfect example of all our problem areas

Yet we continue trotting out Maldy 5 out of every 6 starts

This checked-out lineup was not scoring another run tonight regardless, but it really is impressive to watch Dusty visibly, defiantly, and unbotheredly concede another "close" game by leaving Maldy in and putting Montero in. I think his total this year is up to five or so.

They're raking but it's absolutely not sustainable over 162. Nearly every player in their lineup and starting rotation simultaneously having the best year of their baseball lives is unheard of.

Similar to 2016 when they went a historic 36-11 in 1-run games and won the division with a +8 run differential then promptly got swept by Toronto in the first round… teams with statistical anomalies like that never make it all the way
