If we're going to continue to play Abreu he needs to move down to at LEAST 7th in the order. Batting 6th is way too close to the meat of our lineup.

This. If he's staying in the lineup, really need to move him down. I'd say to 8.

Agreed although the way he's hitting he should be batting 9th but I understand that would be too big a slap in the face (of course for that type of money you could slap me in the face all you want).

Unfortunately Dusty is too damn stubborn (he STILL splits Yordan and Tucker up) so I expect if Abreu continues the way he is it will be well after the ASB before Dusty reluctantly moves him to 7th.

Julks has more home runs than walks this year. Just thought that was really funny.

"That looks like a home run." Uh, you think?? Yordan almost killed a sorority girl up there. They looked like they had no idea what just happened.

I told my wife, "wow, look at the poutine on that one" and she slapped me. She has no culture.

Looking around this morning at potential trade targets. Seems like Uncle Mike's health is still up in the air. I'm not optimistic about his return. If it doesn't look like he's coming back anytime soon, I wonder what the Red Sox would want for Alex Verdugo. He wouldn't be cheap but probably not as expensive as you think considering he's a free agent next year. He's a good fit. Left handed bat, good defense. Puts the ball in play and gets on base.

If I'm the Astros, he's a target.

The Abreu discussions are wearing me out. Because of his contract, he's playing this year unless he gets hurt or unless Dana & Crane decides he's done.

It's easier just to root for a guy who was once a damn good hitter to find it again than complain every. single. night.

He can play, but at some point he becomes a massive liability if his performance continues to be worst in the league at that position and where almost anybody would be more effective in that role.

It's not hard to get a competent bat at 1B but I'd hate to possibly put the season at risk due to a sunk cost fallacy.

If he's still batting with an OPS in the .500 range in
August with no signs of improvement and a contested division, he needs to see massively reduced playing time
I guess this is where I disagree. Yes, he has been a massive disappointment and has not figured it out after more than 2 months. But in spite of it, and not having Altuve, Uncle Mike, McCullers, Luis and Urquidy for more than a handful of games, we're still tracking toward 95-100 wins, so I don't see where the season is at risk due to Abreu. Heck, we're 19-7 over the last month which has been a really enjoyable stretch.

Winning the season isn't the goal. I don't see how you can ride into the playoffs with Abreau at first. Sure, you can win in spite of him with good pitching in the regular season, and maybe a few playoff games, but he's a liability.

People are forgetting how bad our bottom half was last year in the playoffs, and that was with Yuli playing well. We had big innings; things bounced our way, shouldn't count on this stuff. Yes, it worked. Ok. But would you rather not have automatic outs in the lineup?

Adding that I fully expect Chas or Jake to be gone at the deadline from what I've heard. Either would be a good fit for a small market team since they have cheap contracts and are controllable. Similar to the Myles Straw move a couple years ago but I would assume they both have more value.

Hmmm.... small market teams with a decent #3 type SP....

Both of them are much better players than Straw. I honestly don't know which one of the 2 I would rather trade, if that's in the cards.

From what I've been told, I'm about 90% sure one of them will be gone by the end of the deadline. I'm with you. I'm not sure which one I would rather move. Meyers has really turned it on lately.

Maybe the Rangers come crashing down to earth and find themselves out of playoff spot contention by the trade deadline and look to unload Eovaldi or Perez.

**And yes this was posted in jest simply to rile up the lurking Ranger fanboys. I'm not allowed to troll you on your thread so I'll just troll you here.

Eduardo Rodriguez would have fit the bill but he just got hurt.

At the way they're playing now, I love being able to rotate Chas and Jake and also play both together at LF/CF (something we should do more often). It would hurt to part with either.

You have more inside knowledge to actually opine on this 2015, but it seems to me like Jake is the one the team sees the most potential in.

Wouldn't mind chasing after Zac Gallen. I'd also like to see Twins fall off soon and maybe go after Sonny Gray as a rental.

the snakes would never move Gallen. They're actually winning and competing right now.

Wow that is shocking. They've both cheap and under contract. They both can play anywhere in the OF at a high level. They are both above avg hitters and crush LHP. I'd love to keep both and just make one the 4th OF who starts at a corner spot when a LHP starts. Julks is who I'd trade. He's probably got no value tho.

Lots can change between now and the end of July but I expect Houston to flip one of them for an arm. They're also going to be very, very aggressive for a bat.

Not by the trade deadline. Right now the mix for WC is between the 33-28 Marlins, 32-28 Brewers, 30-30 Mets, & 29-30 Giants. No reason Az cant hand with that group. Carroll looks like a star. Marte, Walker, & Gurriel are swinging it well. McCarthy is a fun one to watch grow. Gallen-Kelly make a decent one two punch. McGough-Castro-Chafin are a solid 7-8-9.

And even if Arizona goes cold, their future is very bright and Gallen isn't a UFA until 2026. They aren't moving him.

What position would this bat play? Corner IF? OF?

Corner OF/DH I believe. Ability to play first would be a bonus.

I know you have more knowledge but top of my list of trade bait on the roster currently would be Julks. He has potential but bottom of the pecking order of the three. He is a less consistent hitter, doesnt walk, not as much range and a weaker arm...I get those also mean he has less value.

I'm also going to put it into the ether that it wouldn't overly surprise me if Julks and Chaz were traded for an arm and we saw DG come up. (it is a little worrisome however if he's having arm soreness and is only DH'ing)

1-8 plus Abreu make up a pretty damn good team.

Julks has very little trade value. He's old for a prospect and I don't think his ceiling is very high.

To me this would be our best lineup with Abreu. Substitute Julks for Meyers/McCormick and shuffle those positions whenever you want to.

1. Altuve - 2B
2. Pena - SS
3. Alvarez - DH
4. Bregman - 3B
5. Tucker - RF
6. Meyers - CF
7. Diaz - C
8. Abreu - 1B
9. McCormick - LF

I agree, that's why I want to trade bait him. I don't honestly believe he is doing anything with his PT that Chaz couldn't be doing or Gilbert if he came up.

That is a solid name. He hits righties really well. He can play both corner spots. He's got 1.5 years of control. He seems like a good locker room type. He shouldn't break the bank prospect-wise. I know you mentioned trading Jake/Chas, but he'd pair very nicely with either as a part-time platoon.
