The one night I decide to go out to dinner with my wife the Astros play a national broadcast? Figures.

Always fun to beat the Angels

Dexter Fowler asking Kyle Tucker questions was cool. He was somebody I really liked when he was in Houston. Glad he got a ring for the cubs

This still goes down as one of the worst missed calls ever...

Don't look now, but Bregman, Pena, & Meyers all have their wRC+ north of 100 (105, 104, & 104).

Since May 15th, the team wRC+ is 119 for 4th best in baseball during that time. If our offense can stay anywhere close to that, then we're going to win a lot of games with our pitching.

I know it isn't right, but in a 3-0 game; you call that dude out even if it's a tie. Or at least that's what I do if I'm in an era of no challenges as an ump.

Taking the boys to the game on Sunday. Do y'all know if they are doing batting practice on Sundays? For some reason I remember it not happening in the past.

The ump that called him safe later admitted he got it wrong. Almost makes it worse for the pitcher.

Also here is a short documentary about it:

Thanks for posting that documentary. That was incredibly well done.

What a gut wrenching situation for both parties. Feel awful for Joyce especially hearing him say he saw it as out but for some reason called it safe. Heartbreaking

At the end of the day it's a game and I got a lot of respect for both of those incredible men.

Something I never caught when that happened, but the batter was busting it down the line.

This is must watch TV. Wonderful lessons in how several men handled a mistake, including Jim Leyland.

Plus it was a 3-0 game. Not out of reach even with 2 outs and 1 on.

I don't understand why, in this instance, MLB can't go in and change it to a perfect game. Maybe they ask that last batter if he cares about having an extra hit taken away? I don't know, just seems like with the ump admitting it, and we use replay now to overturn calls...makes sense to me.

The first question was Hey Tuck what's up?

And Tuck was like uh we just played a game

And then he asked the first question, it was fine after that. Dontrelle was trying to get a Ranger Bulletin board material

Absolutely not

MLB can't make and exception and overturn a call. You don't wanna set that precedent and open that can of worms.

Just saw a replay of the Neris 3-2 pitch called a strike. It was a ball, but in no way was it worse than calls made against the Astros all season long. Give us 15 more in high leverage situations and we'll call it even.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Why? We already have replay overturning calls every day. This isn't like going back to games before television and using some news paper article on a bad call to overturn something. It's not a subjective call like a check swing.

That is the most I have ever seen us favored. It absolutely made a big impact.
Mathguy64
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Ironically he didn't favor us. He was neutral to us. He disfavored LAA. And I suspect most of that -1.9 run expectancy was tied to that one call.

Heck that one call was a minimum of one run for them taken off the board. It was 3-2, 1 out and bases loaded. Call it correct and it's a run, plus bases loaded and still one out.

ETA. So how big a call was that? The Runs Expectancy table for 2022 shows bases loaded and 1 out has a RE of roughly 1.6 and bases loaded 2 outs at 0.75. So just on the out call itself the Angels lost 0.85 expected runs. Plus calling it a ball would have guaranteed a run and left them at a RE of 1.6. That's a 1.85 RE swing right there.

TL/DR: that one call was the Angels -1.9 runs expectancy. He was neutral for the rest of the game. That's the definition of a big call.

Did get a favorable call or two early on that if it went the other way could have resulted in a crooked number for the Halos. On the other hand, it is about time the pendulum has swung back the other way for the 'Stros.

I was very surprised that pitch was called a strike and it did have a positive impact for the Astros or a negative impact for the Angels … same thing.

Something doesn't seem in sync on our hitting. Seems to me so many balls are hit hard but right at a fielder . Just a general observation . Maybe it's just bezball and I'm seeing something that's Not really there.

Because that's not how it works. Just like why Joyce didn't change his call the split second he realized he called him safe. The ump's call is the ump's call.

Yes we do use replay now but that's part of the game now and wasn't back then. Hell it was 4 years away.

Unless you're gonna go back and reverse every missed call ever you can't go back and choose to reverse just one. That's insane to me

You want to open the door for those *******s to take away 2017? Because that's how the door opens for that to happen.

Can we go back to 1986 and reverse that craptastic Fred Brocklander call in the NLCS game 5?

Or the Altuve HR rob by Betts in 2018

This is exactly my point

You can't pick and choose which calls you go back and overturn.

Either do them all or do none of them.

im not disagreeing.

And I'm sure the 85 Cards would like to reverse the horrible Game 6 call by Don Denkinger.
