For me it's the quality of contact and the direction of the balls since he's hit that HR. He seems to be hitting them harder and more are pulled or back up the middle. He wasn't even sac flying prior to that HR.

Imo mean he set the bar so unbelievable low that one hr and some hard hit balls and he is close. Sure its improvement but if it just leads to outs does it matter. I mean he should be raking hrs to the crawford boxes and has a one double in that area? If in the next 2 weeks he is "hitting it hard" but only has singles and sac flies do we still say he is close?

Well, the singles would depend for me - are they high EV singles that are mostly line drives? Or are they seeing eye singles? We'd have to look deeper than just the results. If the singles are leading to RBIs, I'm ok with those too.

When we've seen Bregman work out of funks, we've seen tons of pop ups and fly outs. Not saying Abreu is like Bregman, but he certainly seems to be heading in the right direction.

I think the main thing is I do not believe Abreu isn't playing 1B the entire season this season given his contract.
