Statcast does hate his "stuff". Statcast just knows when you give up a bunch of baserunners, hard hit balls, barreled balls, and don't K a bunch of people then it usually doesn't work out in your favor. Stuff wise he's got an above avg spin on his heaters and gets plenty of vertical and horizontal movements on his curve and slider.
Sure. I bet there are other factors mixed in too. Small sample. Good D behind him. Maybe he's better/more zoned in while in trouble so he executes better. Who really fully knows. I'd argue long term he can be successful without improving. And that doesn't mean improving his stuff. Lots of ways about doing it.
