'Stros have won 13 of the last 16. The pitching has been strong. The offense has shown some flashes. The offense is getting healthier too. Abreu, Altuve, & Diaz all popped their HR cherry for '23. Things are starting to feel right. And we still have bullets we haven't gotten to fire yet with Brantley & McCullers. We see some things peculating in the minors.

I might have watched this HR more than any other this season.

speaking of the Mets (27-27)...

NYM is way behind pace from a year ago...when they were 35-19 after 54 games

I know we moan about the offense but the pitching has still been elite. That'll win a lot of ballgames, hopefully enough for the offense (and DB) to figure it out.

That's unreal. 207 less runs given up than the As. Wow

The Mets have been average hitters and below average pitchers. That's a lot of $$ for average.

Mets and Pads have to be the two biggest disappointments.

Rangers the biggest achievers.

I think the 2023 instantiation of the A's have a pretty decent chance to go down as a legit historically bad team. They are exactly through 1/3 of the season at 54 games played, and are sitting at a meager 10 wins.

The fewest wins in the modern era is 36 -- done twice by the Philadelphia Athletics...

I only count 4 instances in the last 100 years where a team finished under 40 wins, all over 80 years ago. Most recently the Tigers have been in the 40s a few times; otherwise all the others in the top 25 worst are from the 19-teens and 30s/40s...

You can throw the mariners in the disappointment category. Many people had them as our biggest challengers in the AL this year. Of course they could end up being good by the end of the year

The Rangers are proving what can happen when you get the right manager in place. And their pieces they added appear to be playing to their historical numbers. Although I haven't watched them much, only the series against us. Curious how they'll hold up to the long season.

The AL central is trash and the winner might be around .500 by end of year. I think the entire AL East besides maybe Boston has rosters capable of making the World Series.

The entire NL is upside down beside LA and ATL. Padres, Mets, Phillies and cardinals are all under .500 and all currently out of the playoffs while the giants, marlins and diamondbacks are currently your wild card reps. Some of that will shake itself out but there are going to be a bunch of teams that unloaded a ton of money not even make the postseason.

At this point you almost have to think it was being done on purpose to help with them move.

The AL East and Central are back "in line" in terms of winning percentage. Quite remarkable that the worst record in the East is better than the best record in the Central. I'm curious if that's ever happened before.

The Phillies were literally a .500 team last year that got hot when it mattered.

They were literally 10 games above .500 in a stacked division and won a about a 95 game pace once they switched managers. They then proceeded to knock out Cards, Braves, & Padres by going 9-2.

That's what we call a reverse Patrick Ewing effect.

I think half of those have been given up by Montero

They almost won 90 games last year. Not sure where you are pulling your figures

Well I mean they were a .549 team, close enough. But yes, at the end of the season they were the best team in baseball

They won 87 games. Only 6 games over 500 and made the second wild card by one game. That's pretty average over the course of a full season.

They were the hottest team in the NL in the playoffs. They were definitely not the best team in baseball at the end.

Please explain to me how a team wins 87 games is only 6 games over .500

Now that's bad math, sorry. Meant won 6 games more than a 500 team.

Wait, the Ranger thread is crying about the Astros gaining ground because Houston's been playing the A's this past week… and they've actually played them more this season?

Hahaha. Zero perspective as usual.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

To be fair, they have lost twice against the A's.

Feels like we haven't been as screwed lately. We're still bottom 3 tho. Both NY teams in the top 4.

I agree the manager was the biggest piece to this year IMO. They are giving up way less runs and putting up way more runs and their free agent adds are performing about how they are paid to perform.

Their long term issue is they don't acquire and develop talent at a great pace. They do not have a long term sustainable model. They do not have pieces ready to step up when needed.

We just gotta keep out working the other FO's
