Another W even though we left 10 OB.

I love Peña, but he needs to stop trying to steal for a bit. He's been thrown out 5 of his 11 attempts. He's tied for the league lead in being gunned down unless Hayes was also thrown out last night.

I'm sensing a pattern here….

So is it only Yankee pitchers that are allowed to wash their hands and return to the game? Or have others pitchers around the league been able to do this and I'm only hearing about the *****es from the Bronx?

Scherzer got the same treatment. I don't recall anyone else.

I'm referring to 1) the Jankees doing sheisty stuff again with possible cheating
And 2) them being allowed to stay in the game after given a second chance.

I know Sherzer was allowed to wash his hands but then was thrown out Vs no yankee pitcher has been tossed to my knowledge

I know German was caught earlier this year...allowed to wash his hands and return. Since then, he's been caught a 2nd time and was ejected and suspended 10 games.

I may have this wrong but my recollection was that the Yankees pitcher German was caught several weeks ago with a substance on his hand and allowed to wash his hands and continue to pitch. Umpires later said it was because they believed the sticky substance was rosin which is legal.

Scherzer got caught with a sticky hand and claimed it was rosin but got tossed. No explanation from the umps as I recall.

Now another Yankees pitcher is allowed to wash their hands (and separately, German was recently caught with sticky hands and tossed).

No matter what the decision making process is that's being applied, the optics for baseball are bad. Tell us what the rules are around sticky substances, uniformly apply the rules and inform us afterward what happened in each incidence. Otherwise it will continue to look like the Yankees are getting more favorable treatment.

Hats off to Jake and Dubon for really working to improve their games. Those two have made it really hard to keep them out of the lineup when about 2 months ago most of us considered them non-factors

This is how I remembered it. Max didn't get to wash his hands, I only recall 2 pitchers being able to wash their hands and return and they're both Yankees pitchers. So like politicians and famous people.....rules for me and rules for thee?

Max definitely got to wash his hands at least once.

Scherzer was allowed to wash his hands but the biggest issue is if you chart out all these instances where they told pitchers to wash their hands it would be all Yankees and one othe team

So, we're 25-19 right now. Given the competition for the next 6 games, 30-20 is not out of range. 60% win percentage is salty given the hurdles so far this year.

31-19 isn't out of range either.

I think that would align with what most of us predicted when the season started. I recall most win totals were in the 92-100 range.

Funny thing is, who is actually playing above their projections so far? Dubon tops the list, but is his replacement play above what had been expected of Altuve if healthy? The centerfield combo of Meyers/McCormick maybe, but I'd have to look at the numbers. I guess left field would be a pleasant surprise since we already knew Brantley would be out. Is Tucker doing better than we thought? I think from an average standpoint he is, but maybe not the weighted metrics.

On the pitching side, nobody really stands out. As Farmer has pointed out numerous times, Garcia and Urquidy weren't lighting it up before their injuries. Valdez, Javier, and Brown have been as advertised, if not quite all-world as we had dreamed. Bielak has survived several games of pepper to post a good ERA.

Tell you what, it's a lot of "if's" to consider, but if Bregman and Abreu get rolling and Altuve and McCullers come back in form, this could be a monster of a squad come playoff time. It was a hot minute ago, but remember that the national pundits said it was Houston's title to lose. It may still be!

Someone posted we should go 12-4 in this next stretch of games against lesser teams - 4-0 so far

And the Brewers are slumping a bit right now, so even that series (wedged in between A's series) looks like an opportunity

Think of it this way

Rangers have overachieved so far
Astros have underachieved so far

It'll even out here soon enough

Offense was mostly meh but won the Bielak start. Keep it rolling with your dawgs on the mound now.

5 runs is "meh"? Short term memory on what this season has been like so far?
I can understand why on the "meh" comment. I think the "meh" is because the team certainly had some opportunities in the 1st and 3rd to score more than 2 runs in addition to the bases loaded 1 out situation in which there were two infield pop flys.

I do agree that I would take 5 runs every day from this offense.

Well put and yes, basically this. Left the bases loaded was it once or twice? Scored five on a team whose team ERA is 7.13 and gave way more chances than that. It was sort of a sleepwalking performance that had the benefit of being against a historically bad team.

Agree that I'll take five runs nightly in a vacuum. Let's see how they do tonight against Sears, who has been "better" than Waldichuk (ERA in the fives as opposed to sixes…)

And in fairness, it certainly doesn't help the offense that the bonehead manager sat Chas, Dubon, and Diaz all on the same night.

Whatever you do, DO NOT POST that in the Rangers thread. They can't take it over there and you'll get three days in the hole.

I won't even go to their thread now but I can probably guarantee someone complained about the ump last night even though they were ringing up Rockies 6 inches off the plate.

Still batting Abreu cleanup...what's the definition of insanity again? If I'm the opposing team I LOVE not having to potentially face the hottest bat in the lineup until 1 out and nobody on base in the 2nd inning.

I know I said before the season I wouldn't complain about Dusty but this is just pure lunacy at this point. What a stubborn stupid donkey POS!

What the actual f/ck Dusty. Diaz has caught 6 games for Hunter and we are 5-1. Maldy has caught 2 games and we are 0-2.

GTFO here with this bullsh/t and play the rookie with the superior arm and bat

I get both sides.

Dusty is trying to show confidence to a guy that has absolutely none, but has been a good offensive player his career. And it hasn't really cost us to do so. And no one wants to sit a guy you paid to come over for his offense. Because it really doesn't matter if he sacrifices a chicken or nails a slump buster and figures it out before the all star break and finishes strong. We're in no danger of missing the playoffs.

For a fan, it's frustrating as hell. Except if it works and we're watching another parade at the end of the year.

Yeah I didn't even get to continuing to have Maldy catch so we have yet another weak ass bat in the lineup. Hopefully since it's the A's we can overcome it but Dana needs to go full ****ing Brad Pitt in Moneyball if this **** continues.

This is what I want Dusty to look like after Dana goes in dry (and hopefully that doesn't mean trading guys but if it comes to it he should):

If Abreu had been batting cleanup would the Astros have won that last game against the Cubs? I guess it depends on if he would have struck out or hit into a double play.

The batting average is bad, at .223, but ok let him work through it.

It's the complete and total lack of power from a power hitter that is most concerning. His SLG is the lowest on the team, even below Maldy's

It doesn't matter in May.
