Man. I would never in a million years thought this lineup/roster could be under .500 through 35 games.

Regardless of injuries, this team has drastically underperformed and Dusty continues to suck as a manager. Gonna have to really earn the division title in '23.

perhaps the most troubling stat of the season...

the Astros are only 2-5 vs. the AL West

that has absolutely not been the way the past 6 years

This teams sucks right now. No timely hitting, can only trust 3-4 guys out of the pen. Dusty asleep at the wheel. Cant keep throwing montero in high leverage spots. He is by far out worst reliever right now

Got to start hoping Altuve comes back on fire because otherwise we're ****ed unless something major changes

This team has all the talent it had last year, plus some. But, it seems to be fine with taking a year off after winning the title last year.

The start to this season is on the offense. The Astros are currently 15th in runs per game and have only a +18 run diff. The team is like 19th in total runs scored and 4th in total runs given up.

Pitching has pretty much done its job. Offense has been a let down.

The numbers confirm what the eye sees.

Should have signed Yuli instead of Abreu and given JV his damn money

Also should have said buh bye to Montero's nonsense contract and bolstered the pen in other ways

Crane got cheap and stupid this off-season

Half that talent from last year has been on the IL

Unless Dusty Baker is encouraged to retire like he already should've been, the wrong people will still be brought in to key spots, Abreu will keep hitting cleanup, Maldy will still play 80% of the games, pinch-hitters won't be used, and nothing will change. It will take half the lineup going on heaters at the same time and the now three teams ahead of them in the standings all falling off.

This team misses Yuli. Can't put a price on leadership in the locker room or the lineup.

Are you saying that Montero's 6.14 ERA isn't what you want in high leverage situations?

Altuve is the spark plug, the table setter. He helps drive the teams identity in the field. He is a big piece missing. Even when he is struggling, the team plays looser. Right now, they are playing tight, hacking at everything. Hopefully, once Altuve is back, Bregman and Abreu will feel less pressure because there will be additional help to lengthen the lineup.

What is Yuli doing to make up for Altuve's .900 OPS being out of the line up? Or Uncle Mike being out of the lineup? Or Breggy having a really, really slow start? Or Abreu seemingly haven fallen off a cliff?

Yuli helps with none of those. In fact, outside of the post season, last year Yuli and this year Abreu you have looked pretty similar offensively.

We just have to survive, stay in striking distance and get healthy.

Hits lead to more hits.

They will come. This team has too much talent and experience to stay playing sub .500 ball.

Yuli has played 15 less games and has 3 more HRs, is hitting ~50 points better than Abreu and ~200 points better OPS. Plus Yuli is a gold glover at 1B and was absolutely beloved in the clubhouse and a huge part of this club's chemistry since 2016

I mean, they could help themselves by working pitchers and getting to bullpens earlier. There are some pretty good bat to ball skills on this team, but some of that has meant weak fly balls and ground outs.

It seems like the team has let a lot of pitchers go 6 or longer this last week or two.

Yuli had a forgettable regular season in 2022 and this board wanted him gone, and got its wish.

Signing Yuli would save us nearly $20M this year we could put towards areas we need more help.

Yeah, but you thought you were replacing a guy who had a .647 OPS last year (who a lot of you thought had fallen off a cliff) with a guy who had a .845 OPS last year, and until this year, as always had about a .800 OPS or higher for his entire career.

George was beloved in the clubhouse and a huge part of team chemistry and the team made it to the 2021 WS without him. Carlos was beloved in the clubhouse and a huge part of team chemistry and the team won the WS last year without him.

This year Yuli would be more of a help, but the Astros have essentially the same 1B as last year with out Abreu has started this season.

Again, Yuli isn't replacing Altuve's .900 OPS, Uncle Mike's professional ABs, or helping Breggy start hotter. Those three are also considered to be the leaders of the team too.

Did you think before this season the Astros were going to need help at 1B? Be serious.

Not even 1B. There were so many posts on this board after Abreu was signed almost orgasmig at the thought of Abreu's bat in the lineup.

And the money we gave montero. Said at the time didnt like the move. The regime never gives a setup man like that crazy money. We let graveman walk for that money. Was such an odd move at the the time for a team that never does that sort of thing. His career numbers are avg at best.

I agree. Abreu's production thus far has not been much worse than Yuli's last season. But like someone said above, the contract difference is rearing its ugly head right now

I was always iffy at letting Yuli go. He's a streaky hitter and won the batting title the year prior. He's no longer hitting for much power but he's just generally a very good hitter and had a fantastic playoffs.

Like everyone I was excited once we signed Abreu but a little apprehensive about the power decline and signing him to a contract like that at his age. I was really disappointed we didn't sign SP which was a bigger need than 1B.
