I'd keep him at 2nd.

Rotate him and Altuve at DH to ease Altuve back into defense and keep Dubons bat in the lineup. You can't keep him out of the game with players underperforming at the dish.

Abreu can think about his life for a while as a PH.

Wonder if they'd consider a sell high option on Dubon for pitching now that the reinforcements are coming. I'd keep working him in the lineup once Altuve gets back and then potentially move him by the ASB

He's been so good. Also Meyers ranks 3rd in all of MLB on defense for center fielders.

Feel we should go with whose producing as we are 1/3 in the season…and reevaluate like you suggest at ASG.

Man, right now Bregman and Abreu are killin' the offense. How Bregman can suck this hard hitting in front of Yordan blows my mind.

On another note, another '70's icon just died, Vida Blue. He was a monster for those A's teams of the early '70s.

I honestly don't think Bregman is that good anymore. I think he will be a solid 3rd baseman but will give you 260/380/420 like numbers. That's where he has been for the last few years, feels like the pre-Covid MVP top 5 type years are all in the past.

Part of it, imo, is when he is choosing to swing. Let's see what I mean:

His run value by pitch type:


His ABs last night -
1st AB: borderline fastball called a strike, then swings at a curveball, fly out


2nd AB: 2-0 count, swings at curveball, fly out


3rd AB: 1-0, swings at a changeup low and away, pop up


4th AB: gets a fastball, but it's low and away, swings and grounds out.


He's not making the pitchers throw many pitches, and he's not swinging at pitches that he can punish. Or rather, he's swinging at pitches he will have a hard time punishing.

Dubon is like a 1980's throwback player ---- where his best stat is batting average (.297)

but today's game puts much greater emphasis on slugging % and on-base % --- where his numbers suffer

3 walks in 123 plate appearances is not easy to accomplish...in a bad way

2023 ---> 17-16

2022 ---> 22-11 --- just finished 11-game winning streak

2021 ---> 17-16 --- went on a 9-2 run starting with game #34

I do not understand grouping Bregman and Abreu together. Sure they are both underperforming to standard, but Abreu has been a complete bust while Bregman has been average. Very similar to other guys on the team.

Bregman is hitting the ball like has always has when it comes to EV, LA, etc. the problem is he's 1. Running into some bad luck 2. Not pulling his fly balls. His high walk rate keeps his floor high. His defense is been excellent this season. He'll be just fine and he's contributing while "slumping".

the 2022 team was very healthy

but the 2021 team had injury problems like 2023.

JV missed the entire season. Bregman missed 70 games. Brantley missed 40 games

That is bad. And frankly it doesn't look like there is anything there that suggests he is unlucky or going to turn it around. It has all the look of a player who you sign thinking he's 36 and he's really 38 or 39 and you got bamboozled.

You aren't going to DFA him and eat that contract in year 1. In year 3 you have to but not year 1. You can't trade him. You can't really sit him all season and Dusty won't do what he needs to do and put him at 7/8 in the lineup.

ETA. Well crap. The stat cast pic isn't showing. It's Abreu's stat cast and it's brutal.

It's easy to group them together, because neither one of them is playing up to their contract level. Bigger pay equals bigger expectations, and neither are coming close.
