I kept hearing that they saw him more as a Willson Contreras type all offseason. They loved his bat but didn't like him behind the plate.. but thought he would be serviceable enough to catch here and there. He had lost interest in catching and like I mentioned above the work ethic just wasn't there for him to be a regular big league catcher.
Something clicked this offseason and he came to Spring Training ready to work his ass off. And he did. It shows. And it says a LOT to me that Dana Brown came out and said he's the catcher of the future. Gotta give the kid credit.

Gotta feel for Korey Lee a little bit, but there's still value in a decent backup.
From what I understand, the front office was never quite as high on him as the fans were. I expect him to be a trade chip at some point this season.
That's interesting (trade chip). I think he could be a nice Robin to Diaz's Batman in 2024 and on. He's cheap. A plus defender (supposedly). And probably about as good as anyone could hope for as a back up catcher on offense.

If a SS throws it in the dirt and the 1B fails to scoop it, majority of the time it's an error. So why when a pitcher throws it in front of the plate and the catcher has to scramble to attempt a block is it a passed ball if he doesn't?
Any updates come out about Garcia the last day or two? Quick Google says no but unsure about Twitter.
I think Dusty said we know more in a day or two. We'll probably get news tomorrow. The schedule plays out nicely where we can get by with 4 and an extra BP arm. End of the month gets tough though. From May 26 to June 11 = no off days. We need Lance to rejoin then and hopefully Garcia and/or Urquidy. That is when I have been hoping we switch to a 6 man rotation.

You can't count on McCullers. He could comeback fine or he could throw 3 pitches walk off the mound and need surgery.
Believe me I don't think anyone is counting on him.
