I hate Dusty's reasoning. He's be better off not sharing it IMO.

He gets sooo close and then makes the wrong decision. I know we're all keyboard warriors here, but how easy is it to construct a lineup with these facts:

Dusty likes alternating R/L
We all went Yordan to bat in the top 3
Yordan, Tucker, Abreu, and Bregman are our best bats.

So, put that together and you get this:
Tucker
Bregman
Yordan
Abreu
Fill out the rest

Tucker is like Springer leading off - draws walks, has pop, is speedy, and he gets more at bats in a game

What does Bagwell have to do with anything? Plus that's basically the belief of all MLB. Heck most guys if they can hit are moved away from C to preserve them for longevity.
He was our de facto GM this offseason and we were content to ride with machete.

Bagwell is not the only one in major league baseball that feels that way. I personally disagree, but it's not like he has some crazy theory in that regard.

Do you think they're gonna go out and sign a great hitting catcher this off-season
I suspect they do something. Machete is so old for a catcher he literally might have to be wheeled out there next year. A trade seems more likely than a free agent. Vazquez was a better option this past offseason than anyone we could get after this season.

How does batting 2nd protect a players legs over batting 1st?

Dusty just making sh-t up

I wouldn't be so upset about that decision if they were going to actually platoon our new guys to get experience and hopefully alleviate fatigue on Maldy

But it seems like that's not what's happening, and we will be forced to patch in a backup Catcher through the trade market before the deadline

So why didn't we just go and get Vasquez again??

You didn't know? The farther down in the lineup you are, you don't have to give as much of an effort running around the bases

it's tricky dealing with older players.

like we saw with Yuli...the decline can happen very fast

To me, I think it's smart to move Pena around. With Altuve and Brantley coming back, we have no idea where Pena would hit in the lineup.

Shuffling him around a bit can help determine where he's comfortable and where a consistent spot for him is when we are fully healthy

Assuming Brantley is back to his normal self, I think it's fairly obvious Pena should be in 7-8-9 range.

For sure. When we are fully healthy, he's not among the top 6 hitters.

But I expect to see Dusty batting him 2nd.

As much as we're missing Altuve and Uncle Mike, this team is really missing knowing Justin Verlander is going to get the ball every 5 days and wreck shop. I realize he's hurt for the Mets, but that feels more like the most palpable missing piece for me so far in '23.
I agree that we are missing "that guy" but IMO both Framber and Javier are going to fill that role. How frustrating would it be to have all of these injuries plus spending all that money on an injured Verlander?

We'll see what he looks like when he comes back and who knows if it was even possible to get him back, but I think we dodged a huge bullet with him.

Looks like another dose of high strikeouts and few hits. I'm not overly confident in them treading water until June at this point.

Hard to do when you typically only have 5 or 6 major league hitters in the lineup.
