Unthinkable? No. But why push it? You know who did that a ton? The 2022 Yankees. Their bullpen was all out by the end of the year after the peaked in May/June.
Giving up 1 run in 9 innings should win you the game 99 times out of 100.

Maldy clanked 2 pitches off his glove. One of which moved the tying run to 3B with 1 out.

Nope not imagining. I think it's just age. Catching is a demanding position, and he's not exactly young/in prime shape anymore. He's bad offensively and you could justify him starting due to his defense. Might be time for a change.
I felt last year Vasquez was just as good defensively and better offensively than Maldy. Especially in the postseason
His defense left him before this year. He's below average offensively and defensively. His only saving grace is his game calling & preparation. Two things that we can't really quantify. And when we try to, other catchers have just as much success (Castro and Vaz) when comparing pitchers with them vs Maldy. This is one of the many reasons I'm shouting from the mountaintops that Diaz needs to play. Let's figure out if he's ready. Let's see if his bat translates. Let him work with Maldy on how to be a pro.

Yeah, it really felt like he was a half second delayed reacting to some of those pitches today.

I really don't understand why we put all our eggs in the Maldonado basket.

First time this year I get to say: I hate the Manfred runner. Play up to 12 normal. Manfred runner should start in the 13th.
