as we discussed in the offseason...if the Astros are going to enter into the mega-deal realm...

Tucker is the player to do it with

I tend to agree with this.

Id challenge Ohtani is a better option, especially with our young OF depth

Ohtani might get double what Tucker does. No one else is on his level.

Someone is giving him half a billion and I can't imagine that would be us. The Dodgers have less than $100M committed next year. Seems like prime destination number 1.

I get those takes. I'm just saying if there is a player to do a mega deal he is above Tucker. Not in likelihood just in players to spend the money on

Ohtani is worth 500M+. The list of teams who will/can sign him is everyone we hate. Period.

The team that signs Ohtani will likely never win a title with him.

100%. Much like the massive QB contracts that almost always handicap their teams into being meh

That's not same thing. He won a title on his rookie deal and they knew what he could do before they re-upped him.

Tell that to pretty much everyone not named mahomes or brady you pretty much cherry picked the one guy who is worth pretty much half the salary cap at that position. For the most part the comment rings true in football.

Stafford? Brady? I think you have to go back to the 2018 Eagles to find a QB not on a mega deal.

Probably but how many are worth that deal? Once they get past that rookie deal it really can hamstring the org. Giants are a great example. That jones contract will really hamstring them imo, and like the carr deal for raiders. I get thats the going rate but has a big affect on what other roster spots you can fill

There's a cap in football.

With no cap a team can pay Ohtani and keep paying other players. There's nothing stopping whatever team signs him for spending more to surround him with talent.

Look at what the Mets did.

where did the Ohtani talk come from?

the Astros are only going to consider mega-deals for their homegrown players

Just realized I did not post AOFA after the previous win and it directly lead to the losing streak. Won't happen again.
AOFA.

Since 2011, the median cap percentage for a QB to win the Super Bowl is 10%.

The huge outliers were Nick Foles + Mahomes & Russ Wilson on their rookie deals. Everyone else was 11%+. Peyton was gobbling up 18% when in Indy and 12-14% in Denver.

Of course we're the only one of those teams to have played 7 games, already.

It's just another bullet in the chamber against Dusty. I wonder how long Brown will be ok with this crap. I also wonder if he talked to Click before taking the job.

Glad we are getting the Dana v Dusty rumors going early. Nothing like a little manufactured drama to liven up the conversation.

For those of you who bet on sports: One observation I have noticed is the Over/Under on MLB games is up this year. Last year i would venture to guess the median O/U was around 6 but this year it is 7.5. I am guessing the changes this year have made it that much higher scoring?

Just a curious thing I noticed.

Really? I have not tracked it, but remember on opening day the totals all seemed lower than normal.

here are the numbers for yesterday:
8.5, 6.5, 7, 8.5, 8.5, 8, 7.5, 8, 7.5, 8, 7.5, 8.5

on first Wednesday of 2022, the totals were:
9,9,9, 8.5, 7.5, 8.5, 8.5, 7, 7, 8.5, 8, 9

Maybe I am just having an old man moment, or maybe the lines went down as the year went on?

like I said, I haven't tracked it. just noticed opening day was very low numbers. several 6 and 6.5.

I think the no shift rule is having a big effect on offense.

I've noticed it just watching our games. Lots of dink and dunk station to station scoring runs off singles etc.

I loathe days w/o Astros baseball but this day off comes at a good time. Plus tomorrow's game is an afternooner, probably will be over by Friday night dinner and drinks time.

ETA: and get used to Thursday's off.....our next Thursday game is in June I think.

I think this is only true if its a team that thinks they are going to "build around" him and be conservative elsewhere.

Theres no reason he can't be the Jeter of this generation for the Yankees, provided they are willing to keep buying the other best FA and continue to have a good farm system.

OFC I hate the Yankees just like the rest of us, I'm just being realistic. You sub out Cole for Ohtani and they are the favorites.

Therefore I hope he goes to the Rangers.

We will never sign him because he demands too high a price tag. But if we did you best believe we would be contenders for a few years after he signed. Our system is deep enough to compliment him for a while
