Ed Wade had nothing to work with and an owner who wanted to strip down payroll. Really I pity the man for the hand he was dealt. He was by no means a good GM but not in the poopura class if idiocy. Spec Richardson would probably be the next worst GM we had, though at least he had a couple good deals at the end of his tenure.

Seriously. Conflict of interest and snake level ethics do not even begin to describe how dirty all that was. How the league and other owners didn't complain to the Commish is beyond me. Oh. Wait. It was Bud Selig. Never mind. I will sit down and shut up.

Yep. He was allowed rape the club for Philly. And got paid by the club to do it. If he were really an honest GM he would have been canned for those "trades". He wouldn't have made it past the first one to get to the rest.

I was at a game in Boston for one his starts. The Sox fans gave him absolute hell about his domestic abuse charges that season. Crazy Phillie fans started doing EAGLES chants. Good times.

yes, he started at Fenway the day after or two days...after he abused his wife outside of Fenway following the first game of the series

the incident occurred under Pat Gillick's tenure. Wade had been fired from the Phillies GM spot the year before

Wanted to get this in before the deadline. This is starter and backup, at their peak season as an Astro (not career, not on other teams) and can't be repeated (i.e. no Biggio at C/2b or Berkman at OF/1b)...

2b Altuve / Bill Doran
3b Bregman / Ensberg
SS Thon / Correa (Dickie should have won the MVP in 1983)
OF Berkman, Cedeno, Hidalgo / Wynn, Springer, Tucker
DH Yordan / Beltran (he didn't play long enough to merit more than this and no way he's not in the field but he was so good you gotta put him somewhere).

SP Nolan, JR Richard, Mike Scott, JV, Dierker / Clemens, Hampton, Cole, Keuchel, Randy Johnson (see Beltran)
