He's really started to step up and put the work in behind the plate. Complete night and day difference between this year and in years past.
He still needs to keep improving his framing. Actual playing time and experience should help that too.

Jose Altuve said he’s been cleared to field ground balls and test his grip on a bat, but it does not sound like he’s been cleared to swing. He said the next two weeks of his rehab are “really important.” Still no timetable for when he may return.

A lot of times the head turning can come from just trying too hard and thinking too much. It's like golf. The smallest thing in your mechanics can make the biggest difference. You have a bad hole or two (or in this case, a bad AB or two) and you start thinking. And when you start thinking, you get in trouble.
Abreu is as professional as they come and this is all mechanical. I don't think it has anything to do with age or ability. April has always been a hard month for him so combine that with the pressure of being on a new team (not to mention a reigning world champion team) and it's understandably been tough.
It looks like to me he's just about out of the woods and I expect a scorching hot next 30ish days from him.

With as many people as we have out, it's imperative to optimize the roster - especially our offense which has been thoroughly unimpressive at home. Makes no sense.
