Here is a pretty solid Cease comp. Cease is younger tho.

Mariners receive
  • RHP Luis Castillo (studd with 1.5 years left)
Reds receive
  • SS Noelvi Marte (#1) Age 20, A+
  • SS Edwin Arroyo (#3) Age 18, A
  • RHP Levi Stoudt (#5) Age 24, AAA
  • RHP Andrew Moore (UR) Ags 21, A

Astros would need to give:
  • OF Drew Gilbert (#1) Age 22, AA
  • OF/1B Ryan Clifford (#4) Age 19, A+
  • OF/2B Pedro Leon (#6) Age 25, AAA
  • RHP Jose Fleury (#27) Age 21, A

This team needs some good news. A trade would be nice. Getting Yordan, Urquidy, and Altuve back would be nice. Dusty retiring would be nice. The Rangers going on a 10-game bender would be nice. Throwing a complete game woudl be nice.

I'll take any of those at this point.

If we could get Yordan, Tuve, Urquidy, and some starting/relief pitching via trade all around the same time that would be an enormous shot in the arm

Those 2 years of no picks is really showing its ugly face now

Chas is in a battle

But that's not a lot of ML ready compete next year pieces that they reportedly want.

Wonder if they'd go for Chas instead of Gilbert and France instead of Clifford

That is indeed a decent comp, but a couple of differences:
1) Cease has 2.5 years, not 1.5 remaining (pro CWS)
2) Castillo was perceived as more dominant at time of trade (pro HOU)
3) Chicago is more likely to want to swap out a propect for a major league ready guy

Good starting point, though, which makes me think you start a package by subtracting either Gilbert or Clifford and adding one of our ML OF, plus another mid-level prospect.

I was more so matching it up to the type of player given up for the Mariners.

I would keep Clifford over Gilbert. Clifford might be my 1 untouchable prospect.

I don't know if the White Sox wanting big league ready talent has been reported or not. If it has, I missed it. I'm just repeating what I've been told when I say that.

Lose to this ragarm and I'll about be done. It's just ridiculous how pathetic this offense can look sometimes against weak pitching. They better light him up the second time around.

(It's not called being dramatic, it's being pissed of watching this same ****show on eternal repeat)
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Wow good catch. I was thinking 1.5 years.

Cease was runner-up for the Cy. I am not sure that perception is correct.

I don't think it gets done without Gilbert.

0 runs in the last 10 innings against the worst team in the NL

Yeah and it's a good comp/start

I would just have heartburn giving up both Gilbert and Clifford.

Wonder if Lee would or could be worked into a deal? Have to imagine he holds some kind of value.

His very uneventful stint in the bigs pretty much shot any value he has.

Lee might have some value for a franchise lacking catcher depth, but he would never really move the needle in a trade package.

We're on the back end of a 2nd run. A 3rd is highly unlikely. Damn the torpedoes, trade the prospects away.

If they are serious about a rebuild, can't imagine they'd want much ML ready talent.

The owner doesn't want to rebuild.

Then why would they trade a SP with 2 years left? It's all about SP.

I would think ML ready talent would be on the table if that's the case, but I agree with HarryRocket - why trade away a guy who could compete for a CY if you aren't going to rebuild?

The report said that Cease was Houston's dream acquisition. It didn't really say the White Sox were shopping him. Just something to keep in mind when we discuss all this.

Edit to add: I know there's been multiple conversations. It very well could be one of those things where we want to see what it would take in case the Sox actually decide they want to sell off some of their guys. We'll see. It's a fun time of year.

That was my basis for the ML talent comment. The White Sox don't want to admit a rebuild, just a retooling.

That is why I wonder if Cease + Robert might be easier to do, even if it drives the price tag way up. We have numbers and prospect value that would be easier to part with if we were locking up a long term CF: Chas, Meyers, Julks, Gilbert, Melton, Leon, etc.

I agree that Cease is up there, which is why I said perception. Castillo was framed as an ace on tye block last year, whereas most think of Cease as a more of a 2 with ace stuff.

I am not saying I agree, just that Castillo was the must have ace on last year's block.

Gotcha. Yeah, haven't read much, honestly. Just assumed some kernel of truth to it.
