More. Much more. Think Peña/Meyers/Garcia/Melton/Lee/Arrighetti

Edit: disregard because this wouldn't be close

I may pull that trigger honestly

The White Sox don't want to rebuild. Their owner has told his people that he wants to compete next year. It's going to take big league talent like Peña and likely a couple other pieces. Diaz too maybe. Or Garcia (he's hurt but lots of team control and we've seen him at his best).

And honestly that might not even be enough

Yes, Michael Brantley. Uncle Mike. Professional hitter. Career .298 BA and 5-time all star that has been a key part of the Astros lineup for the last 4 seasons.

Did you have another Brantley in mind?

Like I've said before, this team lacks fight in a 162 game season. Playoffs or what the team deems as "bigger series," sure they look competitive and have shown to be able to beat anyone. But for whatever reason (Dusty), they lack focus and coast in greater than 50% of the games I've watched this year

Yeah the 36 year old Michael Brantley that can't get healthy enough to take live BP and hasn't played a game of baseball in what over a calendar year.

He's most likely not coming back this year and if he does don't expect much.

I sure as hell wouldn't take him into consideration when assessing this team.

Yeah, the more I think about it there's just no way we could offer enough to pull off that trade. Both guys are young and have several years of team control. It would have to be an astronomical return.

I can see one. I can't see both.

I'd go Cease over Robert. You can never have too much pitching and Urquidy coming back is good but not a game changer given he's a 4 starter at best

Also Robert has yet to put together a full season. Missed about 160 games the last two years

The scenario was IF Altuve, Yordan and Brantley were all healthy. Not an assessment of the current team/roster which obviously does not include Brantley. Not do I expect it will at any point this season

good news...the Yankees lost and the Red Sox lost

Astros still holding the last wildcard
W

and as others have mentioned...the 'stros have a problem at shortstop.

Pena down to a woeful .679 OPS in 327 at-bats

Dubon needs to split time after Altuve returns...

and pinch-hitting for Pena late in games should be considered

If you had told us that sentence in March… Idk how we'd react

Peña needs to get rid of the leg kick. It's not working. Time to get back to what worked. Power is nice, but base hits are better.

kind of a strange night across MLB...

- Mets and White Sox played an 11-10 game

- Tigers and Royals likewise played an 11-10 game

- Giants and Reds also played an 11-10 game

- D-Backs and Braves played a 16-13 game

- Cubs scored 17 runs

- Dodgers scored 10 runs. Guardians also scored 10. Padres scored 9.

pitching is in short supply almost everywhere

the Rays are no longer on pace for 100 wins

just 33-32 in their last 65 games

This isn't happening, you know it isn't and neither is trading him.

I also love those who say every loss is the worst loss possible, maybe the worst of the year. The doom and gloom here is amazing. How do you guys live with all this stress.

Y'all remind me of my wife stressing over every little email from a parent from a girl on her team. It's baseball, it isn't life or death.

On this, this is a deal and maybe the only deal I'd consider including Gilbert in:

Gilbert
Chaz
Leon
Arghetti
Urquidy
Julks
Lee
Ullola
Barber

That covers big league talent, cusp talent and some a little further off

Do you believe either of those players wouldn't take 4-5 guys to trade for? If you prefer look at it this way:

Cease:
Gilbert
Chaz
Leon
Arghetti

Robert:
Urquidy
Julks
Lee
Ullola
Barber

Cease for Garcia, Arrighetti, Ullola, Lee

Robert for Chas, Gilbert, Leon/Meyers, Davis

That is 8 for 2 including controllable ML replacements plus prospects for each.

Yea, it expends most of your prospect capital, but gives you 7 starters (6 with Lance out) under long teem control:
Framber, Cease, Urquidy for 2.5 years
McCullers 3.5 years
Javier for 4.5 years
Brown, France 5.5 years

And again, at that point I would work to include Graveman.

Oof with his new-old leg kick back in he'll start creeping into Adam Everett range

It's clear he doesn't have the timing consistency or plate discipline to excel with the current mechanics. He's all over the place and even more susceptible to the low and away offspeed now.

And if he's trying to hit for more power on top of that he's gonna be worthless

I'd love for it to be better but we're 13th in Off WAR. It seems like offense is down for the position this year.

It's not like there is a giant gap between Peña and Dubon.

He was more or less saying that if the Astros were serious about winning, Yordan, Altuve and Brantley would be playing right now.. even if hurt. And that Yordan's rehab assignment is pointless because "the fastballs are the same velocity".

It was one of the most bizarre string of tweets I've ever seen.

This is the second time in the last 2 days I've seen this phase used/posted on this thread.

Do people really think the Astros don't care about winning?

I can listen to the argument that Dusty doesn't value the regular season as much as evidenced by his wacky ass lineups but to think the organization doesn't care or isn't serious about winning is as much of an asinine take as I've heard.

The next 12 days are going to be very interesting in terms of what Dana thinks about the current roster, our injuries, and the players in the farm system. He's had 6 months to evaluate the farm and obviously he's seen the MLB product we're putting out there. He also has more details than anyone on the injury situation. Going to be interesting....

That was how I felt as well. It's not a bad stadium. Not great, but not bad.

The atmosphere was lacking. I described it as Bronco fans who were looking for something to do during the summer.

I remember the beer being very reasonably priced. $5 a pint I believe. At least that was the case up in that bar/party area in the right field upper deck.

Lots of cool spots to hang out around the stadium in the LoDo area though. That's where I meant Tony Kemp and Max Stassi.. that was a fun night.

Luis Robert Jr is very good, but I don't think he's that much better than Chas that warrants giving so much up. Chas may be an 850+ OPS guy and the CF of the future, we haven't given him enough time to prove that he isn't.

I am kind of blackpilled that I think we've seen the last of Brantley ball, that McCullers is never going to pitch again and that Altuve and Yordan are going to be 300 AB a season kind of players from now on.
