Fisher redshirted at Mississippi in 2020 before helping Walters State (Tenn.) CC reach the College World Series the following season. He hit 18 homers (including two grand slams in one game) after transferring to Charlotte in 2022 but went undrafted because of worries about his swing and strikeouts. Those concerns still exist, but at age 22 he's one of the top budget savers in this year's Draft after setting school records for single-season (30, third in NCAA Division I) and career (48) homers and breaking another mark with six blasts while winning MVP honors at the Conference USA tournament.
Fisher stands upright at the plate with one mission on his mind: launching balls to his pull side with an uphill left-handed stroke. While Fisher isn't the smoothest runner, he has solid speed and can steal an occasional base. An adequate right fielder for the 49ers, he has an average arm and projects as more of a left fielder in pro ball. He also spent some time at catcher during his season at Walters State.

Dude hit 30 home runs last year and got on base more than half the time. Looks like the major concern is swing and miss. Interesting.

I hope Dana has a big splash lined up later with extra slot money because I don't get some of these picks… not that I would really know either way, just looking at projections.

Not really a big deal. Rounds are irrelevant in MLB. Most likely a predraft deal with agreed upon bonus so the team wasn't stuck guessing how much bonus money to play with, which is a much bigger concern with HS kids that can just go to college. I suspect if we are going to splurge it will be on someone who falls to the 11th round after we regroup tonight and see how much dough is left (similar to Clifford last year).

Plenty of early round guys don't ever pan out and plenty of later round guys emerge and have nice careers.

Sinker / slider groundball pitcher that can still generate some wiffs. Needs to improve control and consistency of other pitches to be a starter.

I know we're on draft talk now, but my trade talk take would be for a SP #3 or #4. Priority #1 is win the division bc that sets you up the best for making a WS run. If you want to make a run for the WS (which is the only goal for the Astros) you need Framber and Javier to be a solid #1 & #2. After that if you can get a solid start 2 starts out of Brown/France/Trade guy, you get Altuve+Alvarez healthy, then you are golden on winning the division and having a legit chance to advance in the playoffs. I think a healthy + experienced Astros team has the advantage over any other AL opponent in a 7 game ALCS.

Your BP just needs to be solid 6/7/8/9 in the postseason. Which I trust Maton-Stanek/Abreu/Neris/Presley over any other teams bullpen come October.

In the 7th round (224 overall), the Astros take RHP Joey Dixon from Stanford. He's 6-2, 204 pounds. He had a 4.73 ERA and struck out 90 batters in 83 2/3 innings this year.

I pay attention to see which Aggies get drafted. I certainly can't tell whether most of the picks will pan out or not.
