Pretty much. Not even just for Altuve's sake though. I love the WBC, I think it's good for the sport, and this iteration has been fantastic. It's frustrating to watch the US be the only nation who can't commit, when the rest of the world is absolutely rabid about it. To see that meltdown because a few pitchers didn't care to don Stars and Stripes when Shohei is out there throwing 102 for Japan and Alcantara pitched for the DR is just pathetic.
Just makes it particularly worse when someone like Bard is out there nailing our All-Star on the hands.

So admittedly I haven't been paying much attention but why are field players participating but pitchers not? I know Framber declined his national team and what he said. But why the lack of pitching on the US team?

Depending how the offense goes, Tucker has at least one chance to hit for the cycle. He also has a chance to tie and maybe break the record for hits in a single game for Team USA.
This atmosphere is electric. Relievers who have not seen this kind of action should not be in this winner take all game. Battle-tested guys should. Look at Luis. He's been there. Adam did a good job minimizing the damage.
As far as Altuve goes, it could have happened in a spring training game with a minor leaguer on the mound. If he broke his hand, we would likely see him back in June.

You think the best players team USA could offer would mean he's safer (more control) vs what he sees in ST (guys trying stuff and lower level arms).
Have they considered doing the WBC with AAA or college players? This way they gain valuable experience on a bigger stage and that P:ros get to stay healthy and prepare for their season properly?

I think it's just a matter of it takes a lot more time for pitchers to ramp up to where they want to be and it's a lot higher risk of injury to push that schedule whereas hitters there's less ramp up and if not you're just gonna look bad as opposed to blowing your arm out.

You would think that, but in that type of atmosphere, a reliever that hasn't experienced it, is likely too amped up and starts overthrowing. That leads to loss of control.

Also these international players are a lot more passionate to play for their country than the Americans.
Plus guys like Cole, JV, Max, Kershaw are all a bit older. They can't take the extra high leverage innings like Luis, Urquidy, Urias, etc can.

Cole isn't that old, is he? I am not that in the loop, but I imagine there are some guys in their 20s that are studs already.
