I love the reaction of the guy in the bottom right when the hook lands in there for strike.

Astros radio broadcaster Steve Sparks sees Santa as a special arm in the system, too. Santa, who took 2022 minor-league camp by storm, missed almost the entire season last year with an undisclosed injury.

Astros GM Dana Brown said he’ll know by tomorrow if the club will be able to get extensions done in Spring Training with RF Kyle Tucker and LHP Framber Valdez. “We would still talk in the regular season if something came up,” he said

Brown said he felt more optimistic about extensions for Tucker & Valdez a week ago. “We may be further away, particularly on Tucker than Valdez, but I’m one of those to keep hope alive.”

Dana Brown: “I feel a little less optimistic. We may be further away particularly on Tucker than Valdez, but I’m one of those to keep hope alive ... I don’t like to do much of it during the season, if you can avoid that.” - https://t.co/O8zFKCTc3p

I brought both that deal and Austin Riley's 10-year deal up

"Alex (Anthopoulos) was the boss there. I don’t know if I would have done those deals because I’m just not a 10-year guy. But I would do multiple years. I would even go up to seven." https://t.co/X9o48ZrcJA
Might make more sense in a year or two then when these guys are just 1 year from FA.bearkatag15 said:I brought both that deal and Austin Riley's 10-year deal up

It should be a happy face we aren't giving Bregman an 8 year deal. Too inconsistent to warrant guaranteeing money when he's 38

Quote:
Earlier this week, Baker gave a glimpse of what his everyday starting lineup will look like when everyone is healthy by revealing veteran left-fielder Michael Brantley will hit second, instead of shortstop Jeremy Peña.
In the final month of last season, with Brantley on the injured list following shoulder surgery, Peña batted second. He also batted second in the playoffs, winning the ALCS MVP and World Series MVP.
Still, Baker said the consistent Brantley will hit second when he's healthy, behind Jose Altuve and ahead of Yordan Alvarez, Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker. With newcomer Jos Abreu slotted into the sixth spot, Peña likely hits seventh in a full Houston lineup.
So here's what the Astros' lineup will look like on Opening Day, assuming Brantley and Alvarez (hand soreness) are healthy:
Altuve 2B
Brantley LF
Alvarez DH
Bregman 3B
Tucker RF
Abreu 1B
Peña SS
Chas McCormick CF
Martn Maldonado C
"If Brantley's in the lineup, Brantley's No. 2," Baker said. "And if Brantley's not in the lineup, then I'll decide. … I know Peña's been good, but Peña ain't been good as long as Brantley. Plus, they're going to make some adjustments to Peña this year. … I don't believe in the sophomore jinx. I believe in a year of adjustment."
Jose Altuve waved over to the Astros dugout before his first at-bat. Dusty Baker and Joe Espada were applauding him as he walked up to the batter's box. He then lined a first-pitch single into left field.

The spring of Dirden rolls on. Turned on a 100 mph heater for a triple into the right center field gap. He can really run.

This is going to be as interesting a story line as any this year I believe. And this kind of knowledge, insight is what Dusty's 40+ years or whatever it is in the league brings to this team.
