Add the Astros and ATT Sports Net to the growing list of RSNs going belly up. I hope that this is a good thing in the end and that somehow this does away with regional blackouts via streaming. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds. I wonder how this effects people like Julia Morales, TK, and Blummer who are employees of ATT Sports Net?

All I know is I better be able to watch my astros from here in Bryan when the season starts. This probably couldnt happen at a better time for the astros to find a big time suitor for their games. Best team in MLB, maybe not the best tv market, but who is going to pass up televising our games?

The articles have said that if the networks liquidate, then they will allow the teams to still use all the equipment for providing the games. I have to figure that the personnel would be included in the deal.
Julia is more of a journalist, right? She works for the network and does a lot of content pieces outside of field reporting. I hope she can continue with the broadcasts, but this is going to be really interesting to see how it all works out.

The question is how the Astros get paid. Getting to use the equipment to produce it themselves means they have to pay for producing the broadcast. That's the opposite of an income stream.
So are the Astros getting any advertising income directly now? Is there any advertising income? Are those contracts transferred to the team?
Media rights are an income stream. Imagine if the YES network went belly up. That's a huge amount of money for the Yankees. WGN and the Cubs?
The real question is how much of a hit does this put on the team's revenue and does it impact them in at way going forward with spending.
Now add in the distribution. ATTSSW had a distribution contract with DirecTV. If they go belly up do the Astros have to negotiate that themselves? Does it stay in place automatically?

One of the articles said teams selling their streaming content is 10 years away but seems like mlb.com has the infrastructure if the Astros were to manage the production themselves with former ATT Sportsnet personnel.
Seems way to simple but then anyone that had the mlb app could stream Astros games if you paid the fee directly to them.
