Until he retires, gets cut or clears rookie status in the show then that is all you can call him

Arlington, KC and expansion Nashville. We would put banners up for 10 straight years and run out of space.

Good discussion here on the impact of bigger bases

So that video explained something I hadn't understood about the two pickoff try limit. The pitcher can try a third time but if he doesn't get the runner then it's like a balk. I was thinking after the second try it would practically be like a free base, but not exactly. This should mostly put an end to pitchers stalling while they figure out what they want to do. I'm thinking this won't be a bad thing.

Astros Center on IG is doing an All Time top 100 Astros. Hopefully that link works

So Yordan for sure in the top 20. He should be top 10. Maybe top 5-6. And Pressly?

Diaz was 51st. Agree. No Pressly.

The argument for Pressly is more than convincing but relievers are at a massive disadvantage

Curious how they define getting him out. If pitcher throws to first and runner takes off and they throw him out first to second is that counted as an out? Or a balk because they didn't get him going back to first?

Colorado makes sense over KC. That allows KC to stay with their existing historical rivalries. You'd need another west coast team to replace Colorado though (SLC?).

question:

The bases are bigger, but does that mean the distance between Homeplate and 1st is now shorter? If so that is a way bigger deal than stealing bases

Yes, but about 3 inches. Same with 3rd to home. 1dt to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd is about 4.5 inches closer. But that almost puts the fielders closer together on their throws to those bases.

seems like a solution in search of a problem. This + outlawing the shift will mean a pretty healthy jump in runs, not sure I am a fan tbh

If expansion occurs some realignment will be necessary, however does anyone really want Manfred to be the commissioner in charge when it happens?

Technically, when a runner goes toward 2nd on a throw over it is scored as picked off. I would assume that means the pitcher is safe from a balk, but who knows?

In reality I bet we see very, very few 3rd attempts. Teams won't risk giving up that base.

Here is a good article on what the rules did for the minor leagues.

https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/what-the-minor-league-data-says-about-new-mlb-rules-changes/

  • Pitch clocked worked, but only with the limited pick offs
  • Shift ban had a much less impact than most expect
  • The combo of pick-off rules and larger bases greatly increased stolen bases

Didn't Framber's agent just say this wasn't true?
Difference between "discussing" and throwing an actual # out there as was reported on twitter.

I'm sure Dana's version of "discussing" is putting a feeler out to the agents saying we'd love to get a deal done. what about yall?

Maybe, but I think Framber's agent was pretty clear.

I watched him pitch for Corpus in 2017 and at he looked so good the time I thought he'd probably be on the 2018 playoff roster.

I hope he stays healthy and puts it all together this year. Just pitching a few innings in the majors would have to be considered a victory at this point.
Agreed. It's been a long five years.

Feel like he's as big of a wild card prospect as there is in baseball. If the baseball gods offered me solid, back-of-rotation depth from him for the next few years, I'd take it.

I think that would have to be the case or else after the second attempt, if the pitcher throws to first then the runner could automatically head to second base. But it's baseball so who knows?
